Has anyone ever seen/heard of the Thornes TD 309 Tri Balance Turntable?   I cannot seem to even find a Canadian MSRP.Anyone have an opinion of the TT's that Thornes currently have out?

Hi VOLKS,

Followed you over here from Bryston.  I have a circa 1975 TD160 and was thinking of either rebuilding/upgrading or looking at something new.  Check this link.  Retail is between $1500 and $1800.00 US.  It comes with one of Thorens entry level cartridges so you might want to think of upgrade there.

Sorry, I just think it's proper ettiquete to correctly spell both company and people names, particularly in topic titles.

As far as 'subjectional', you haven't done anything that former President George W. Bush hasn't done.   ;)

As far as the Thorens TD 309, I can appreciate the engineering design choice for the 3-point stance.  And I assume the shape of the deck is also an excellent engineering choice, with no extra deck mass overhanging the feet.  Exactly what it needs to be and no more.  For many used to the rectangular shape, it looks a bit odd and modern, but in this case form follows function.

We all have different tastes. It's shape just repulses me but I do respect others that do like it.Ones man meet, you know the rest.
This would have to be among the TT that I just love looking at.But I'm sure someone out there may dislike it's appearance.

I think someone has been looking at my ARmod and has put the tone arm in the back as I have, along with a balanced plinth.

with all the killer used decks awailable, i can't understand how anyone would want to spend $1800 on a new deck.

YMMV is right.  Turntables are delicate instruments, and many people have been burned with bad platter bearings and damaged tonearms due to improper or inadequate care in packing.  I can see why some people would prefer to buy new.

your caveat about proper shipping/packing is well-taken.  i would discuss this w/the seller before shipping, even if it means paying a bit more for the shipping, due to extra box for properly packing platter/arm/etc separately.  this issue is also not strictly related to turntables, but to buying any used gear, imo.  i typically discuss shipping/packaging issues when i am interested in purchasing used gear.

 Hello,
It is one year now from the presentation of this turntable.
Can someone post some fresh comments?
It was a success or … ?

Regards,
Giuseppe
