RM 300 triode versus push pull
« on: 15 May 2008, 03:59 am »
Roger,

I seem to recall reading that the 300 can be done at 150 watts triode.  Is it possible to make it switchable for operation in triode or push pull?  Sorry, if this isn't a good question, but I've seen other amps offer this feature (VTL, ASL, etc.).  Thanks for your time and assistance.

The power relationship between Pentode, Ultralinear and Triode operation is not a fixed one. Although most ultralinear amps will give about 50% of their UL power in Triode this does not apply to pentode amps unless their screen voltage is about the same as the plate voltage.

The triode power in the RM-300 mode is about 100 watts and can be biased class A to that power.

Is it possible to make the amp (an amp) switchable without compromising performance? or does optimal performance require that the [a] circuit be fixed for either triode or ultralinear operation?
