I'm really enjoying this new release:

Make sure you go with the deluxe version (two CDs) and I'll also be getting the LP here: http://store.acousticsounds.com/browse_detail.cfm?Title_ID=43071

Stuff I got right here on AC.  Greyboy*. Da funk!!  Can't get enough of tracks 3, 5 and 6.  Pity they didn't bring the tenor player up in the mix.  He bridges jazz and R&B note perfectly on these tracks.  Russell's new disc.  The tiny bit of D'Gary's singing and the way he is miked makes me recall that opera might oughtta be done with just two mikes above and in front of the stage (what would it sound like if the the singers and setting were defined by, well, themselves?).  I'm still waiting on Coltrane's Impulse collection and that Franz Bak disc recommended by someone (you know who you are).  A Satfrat recommendation by Gretchen Peters is in the cart along with a little thing by a fluegelhornist named Thomas Marriott.

* For you youngbloods (altho if your a real youngblood, or as hip as Wolfny, you probably know this already) "greyboy" is an expression to describe a whiteboy with a little soul.  That's from the day (with great affection).

Just added to my CD/SACD collection with some basics.

Michael Jackson - Number Ones
Seal - System
Gipsy Kings - Volare
Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Miles Davis - Kind of Blue SACD
John Coltrane - Blue Train SACD
Rodrigo y Gabriela

The last CD was a recent discovery for me on Amazon and I tell all you fellow audiophiles...don't walk....RUN AND GO GET the Rodrigo y Gabriela CD!!!!!! It is the most energetic and incredible acoustic guitar I have ever heard - even better than Gipsy Kings acoustic works. If you have fast detailed speakers and tubes it sounds AMAZING. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!!!!

MJ-  I take it you live in the city.  I don't figure Anthony Braxton for the burbs.  Had the pleasure of seeing the Arkestra live in SF at a club called Both/And.  Had lifetime free admission there cause I traded some rare albums to the owner (two blocks from my apartment).  Freaky stuff like early Albert Ayler.  That place was a serious music venue.  Served only apple cider and coffee.  Or, maybe the owner just couldn't get a liquor license.  Never asked.  Enjoy yourself.

Just hit the Virgin Megastore at Union Square in NYC this afternoon, and grabbed a little bit of everything -- some for my bride, some for me, something for everybody in our house:

Neko Case - Blacklisted
Gram Parsons - GP/Grievous Angel
Juno - Soundtrack (wife loved the music in the movie)
Cowboy Junkies - The Trinity Session (one mic, seriously? I am floored)
Leonard Cohen - More Best Of (can't get enough of the deep-voiced stuff)
The Oscar Peterson Trio - Night Train (makes me wish I'd stuck with piano lessons)
Latin Jazz - Putumayo (these guys puta out some good samplers, and this is no exception)
Queen - Greatest Hits (big, big, big sounds)
Radiohead - In Rainbows (haven't listened to it yet, but I can't wait)
