Picked up a few bargin discs, mostly electro.
1. V.I.P Lounge 2 ~paris~ Disc 1 is termed 'Electro'. Disc2 'world music'
2. This is Chill out. A 3disc set of DJ remixes.
3. Total EUPHORIA mixed by Dave Pearce. 2Disc set.
4. Jazz records presents 'The Late Lounge'. 2Disc of sophisticated chill.
5. Electric Stew The Album. THis is a wierd looking CD set, totally black cover and linear insert with black lettering, even the dics itself does not have a 'label' per se, it looks like a double sided blank disc.
6. Grace Jones 'the collection'. Been a big fan of hers since way back in the last century. Nipple to the bottle, La vie en Rose, Feel up...classic GJ.
7. The story Of Vee-Jay, America's Premier Black Music Label. A 2disc collection of some of their greatest hits spanning the 50's, 60's and 70's.

All of the above were priced under $10. each

Very Nice,
So of the artists what disc sounds the best soncially and or coolest compilation? I really like that genre

Just ordered this.  http://store.acousticsounds.com/browse_detail.cfm?Title_ID=31994&keywords=NL071906

I liked the IV and I kind of feel like I owe Johnny to get his last album.

I'm looking for some of those sultry female brazilian vocalists.
Any Recs...?
First....an interesting story on the Bossa Nova..... :D
And a few cds to listen to...
Three Way Mirror.....an old fav of mine...excellent sounding cd as well.
A nice one from Flora Purim ....the Queen of Brazilian Soul .
Another good collection from Astrud Gilberto......the Ipanema girl.
Want a sweet voice....Ana Caram...... 8)
Relax....this woman plays guitar...Badi Assad......and can she play. :guitar:
OK....He's not a woman, and another Chesky release...but they sound soooo good.....Luiz Bonfa......good tunes.
And....as the article mentions "the first Brazilian female singer to sell hundreds of thousands of albums on a consistent basis"...that would be the late Clara Nunes.....on EMI.
Those are a good starting points. Or....since its summer here, maybe a little summertime blues......  :jester:
Happy listening....
Links are to Amazon....so you can hear the samples... :bounce:

Thanks Lonewolf,
interesting read and I'll check out those discs
I just got:
Bebel Gilberto: Tanto Tempo

I guess this would be modern Bossa Nova' esque
I enjoy this disc and it's what got me thinking about this style of music yet again.

I'm thinking of picking up Patricia Barber's "Cafe Blue". I just listened to it at a dealer store, it's a SACD/CD Hybrid version, it sounded really good...

Unfortunately I don't have a SACD player, and I cannot buy the hybrid version because I have a squeezebox and I believe hybrid CD cannot be ripped (correct me if I'm wrong). So I search around and found several released of the same recording:

-2004 released by Koch Records
-1999 released by Blue Note Records
-1994 released by Premonition

Can anyone tell me which one of these has the best sound quality? Thanks for helping.

Recieved a bunch of cds over the past couple days.
1. Tom McCarthy~spark and luminance. some wicked ass guitar music or so the samples I heard led me to believe.
2. Wajdi Cherif~ Phrygian Istikhbar. Tunisian acoustic jazz
3. Bob Zander~ Shyline to the sea.
4. Ernesta Diaz-Infante & Chris Forsyth~March.
5. Pete Weisse Quartet~ Masch Branch
6. Incognito~ 11. My favorite funk-jazz group.
7. Time Travil.
8. Rick Wald~16/NYC, Castaneda's dreams. NY based big band ensemble.

Over the past month my stereo set up has been 'diassembled', due in part to the new plasma(42") displacing the wall mounted shelves where I had my sources, and my 'laziness' to rearrange the main rack to accomodate the said sources. And with the recent hot weather, I was not too keen on powering up my tube amp.  But I am sure starved for some music...

She has been described by one music critic as the Michael Jackson of classical music without the make-up.  Amazing solo piano playing........
