Hello:

Here is a picture of the first "production" UltraValve amplifier.  Actually it's the second UltraValve built using all the final parts -- Frank built and kept the first one  :D

It sure looks nice powered up in a darkened room!

I like the naked trannys.  :thumb: No chrome covers please!

The chrome top is excellent for reflecting the tube light though.

The chassis is not chrome plated.  it is highly polished stainless steel.  The faceplate is double anodized light gold made in USA aluminum as is the complete unit.  Many foreign aluminum alloys don't meet spec and end up with mottled finish results.

Some neat new physical features of the new Ultravalve include new test lead receptacles for bias adjustment. These black and red receptacles will accept standard test probe pins on a volt ohm meter.

In the back of the amplifier, we have placed the common, 4, 8 and 16 ohm speaker jacks in a geometrical configuration so that a double banana jack can be used with any combination:

   (       8       )
(    4 c 16   )  (this may not be the exact order, but you get the idea).

We are building and shipping the new Ultravalve amplifiers right now.

The lead time is about 30 days from time of order as we are running busy.  Note that we do not charge your credit card until we are ready to ship.

Best regards,

Frank Van Alstine

Frank, has the UltraValve amp been added to your website yet? If not, maybe you could post the spec details here? Thanks.

Cheers,
Robin

Congratulations, Frank, it’s a real beauty!

Which transformers are those, exactly?  Triode?  Dynakitparts?  Hammond?  Do you screen output transformers and pick only ones that meet certain criteria?

Thank you.

The production transformers are made for us by Dynakitparts.  We have also tried Triode and Mangaquest transformers too with just fine musical results in testing.  Kevin at Dynakitparts has simply been great to work with and he is making the polished stainless steel chassis for us too.

With our circuits the small amount of residual very high frequency overshoot that sometimes is seen on some output transformers is gone.  It never was the transformer's fault, just less than perfect circuit design ahead of them.

The amp is supplied with National 6GH8A tubes, Sovtec 5AR4 tube, and matched quad sets of EH 6CA7 tubes at this time.  These have given us excellent reliability and performance.

Power output is about 35W per channel.  Noise is very low.  Bandwidth is down 3 db at 50K Hz and 5 Hz.

Obviously the amplifiers are carefully bench tested and go through a 24 hour burn in in my reference system before shipping.  Any issues with performance are of course put right before the amp goes out the door in our very special custom designed packaging material.

Frank Van Alstine

That sure is a nice looking amp Frank. If it sounds half as good as it looks, it will be a winner.

Gee Sal, I'd be hoping that it would sound twice as good as it looks myself.
