ONE.2 how hot is it supposed to get?
« on: 1 Dec 2010, 11:47 am »
Just received my ONE.2 yesterday and I am really enjoying it. But a simple question:
It seems to get rather hot, even at relatively small loads. Example: Playing one hour at two notches up on the volume control (high sensitivity speakers) gets it nice and warm to touch, a good bit above body temperature.
Is this normal?

Yup. All of the Virtue products run warm - it's inherent in the design. I don't think anyone has ever reported any heat related failures. I just warm my hands over when it's cold in the office, so I suppose it's a feature, not a bug.  :D

The case is used as a heat sink.

Yeah, I know. With the heatpipe and everything. Really great design. I just thought D-class amps were supposed to be so efficient. I was a a bit surprised at how much excess heat it throws off even at small loads.

they are as efficient as any tripath based amp we just run the chips hot and at higher voltage, this is why our amps sound different than other tripath amps do and have more power.
