DAC Streamer Combined
« on: 29 Nov 2015, 03:15 pm »
Has Bryston given any thoughts to a DAC Streamer combined product. I am sure that with the way audio is moving and the products that Bryston has been introducing the last 7 or more years that a lot of people would use such a product. Because what I have seen on the market is most companies are introducing/producing one or the other, but not both. I would think that such a product would be a hit, because now you are covering both bases at once.

I made a similar request to James/Chris not too long ago. In the meantime I made my own to hold me over until they come up with something. I used a raspberry pi b+ (https://www.raspberrypi.org/products/model-b-plus/) and a hifiberry dac pro (https://www.hifiberry.com/dacplus/) with volumio (https://volumio.org/) works perfectly using via plugplayer app on my iphone with my BDP as the media server and the hifiberry running volumio as the renderer. Final cost was less than $150 bucks for everything including a case and power supply.

I think that would be a worthwhile product

Cool! How did you put it all together? Could you show some pics, I'd like to have a go at that too, just for the fun of it alone.
Cheers,

Wasn't too bad, hardest part was realizing the miniSD card i had was no good so i had to go out and get a new one. This video was helpful https://vimeo.com/104410779. Note in the pictures i currently have the power supply unplugged from the unit.

For its specific purpose it sounds fine, even got thumbs up from my wife. The streaming works perfectly, it reads the BDP library and renders the output to the amp.

I see that Simaudio makes a device that Streams music and has a DAC in one housing with the same DAC specs as the BDA-3, it does have the display of the BDP-2
