Is there any good B&M store in Fairfax or Alexandria, VA? My uncle wants me to set up a home theater for him. He lives in that area and is not comfortable with ordering from internet. Besides, I'll set it up for him so B&M is better if something goes wrong during installation.

His budget is $1500 for 5 speakers and a subwoofer. I suggested Athena set from Best Buy for him but wondered if he could get a better set for his money. Receiver will be Panasonic XR-25S. 70% movie and 30% music. Thanks for any information.

All good recommendations I think. I haven't been to Sound Works in Bethesda, Sound Images is run by folks I know well and The Gifted Listener has an excellent reputation. I'd like to recommend my friend Lucius at Dynamic Sound Audio in D.C. where i bought my VMPS RM40s, but I don't think he has any loudspeakers that will fit your uncle's budget for a surround system.

In addition to these, Tweeters and Myer-emco are worth visiting for a system a cut above the mass-market stuff but not quite in the high-end stratosphere, although myer-emco has high-end pretentions and tweeters carries some high-end lines like B&K, Martin-Logan etc.

PM me if you have further questions I can try to help you with.

For the budget listed I'd check out Myer-Emco and Tweeters, as well.  You could also try Lynn at Boulevard Audio (number is on the website at www.boulevardaudio.com).  He may not have anything in the range but he's a great guy and very knowledgeable.  Lynn, who used to own part of DejaVu Audio, doesn't have a storefront yet.  He works from his home in Alexandria right now.

Regards,

Chris

Thanks a lot guys for your suggestion.  I'll pass the information to my uncle so he can can do some looking/shopping this weekend.  Most of them may be out of his price range but they'll give him an idea what to expect.

D.C. / Baltimore area circle?
Hi,

NOt to steal this topic, but it's starting to look like there are enough of us AC'ers in the D.C. / Baltimore / Northern Virginia area to consider forming a circle.

What do you think? If I get some positive feedback here, I'll re-post in the Town Square and see what happens. If that's not the best way to do this, please let me know how this should be done.

Thanks.

AudioBuys in Manassas is another good B&M store.  www.audiobuysinc.com

You may want to check out the Paradigm System 3.  It's very affordable and is supposed to be an excellent bargain.

In the price range your looking at, it would be worth your time to check out Audio Video Solutions in Laurel Md. Craig there is a great guy to deal with. In the price range your at, they carry Paradigm, Mirage, Klipsch and KEF. They will also give discounts off of retail prices. If you go, tell Craig I sent you.
