This Oppo is bit pricey but it is interesting.  Thoughts!  Just might buy one.

It does a lot of things for the money.  If someone doesn't have rack space for components it is a DAC, can play discs or any kind and can play music from either an attached hard drive or NAS.  Oppo has a media control app so that file playback can be controlled via a smart phone or tablet.

If they close them out soon, the price might come down before they disappear.  Oppo has announced a successor the BDP-103 - http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/show/Oppo/Ultra_HD/4K/hdr/ultra-hd-bluray-player/price/cedia-2016/oppo-readies-udp203-4k-ultra-hd-bluray-player-for-499/35160

I'd anticipate that it is probably that they may introduce a successor to the 105.  If so, they may not continue to make that model.

This is from a German site and suggests that a UDP-205 is coming as well - http://www.hifi-forum.de/viewthread-166-9927.html

I don't think I've ever seen Oppo discount any models even after announcing a new one.

You could be right (can't remember) - they do have authorized refurbs for a bit cheaper and may have some of those).  This was from some time back about the eventual discontinuance of the current player - http://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=272153

I did get my 103Ds (I have one in the main system and one in a back up system) at a slight discount.  Bought a couple of projectors for the new place when I moved in just over 2.5 years aback.  They weren't allowed to discount the projectors but gave me a slight discount (they claimed it was their cost) on the Oppo players.  I think I paid around $552 vs. $599 so it wasn't a big deal.  I already new from several other places that the projectors were not going to be discounted.  I would have bought the Oppo players anyway.

I've owned a 105 since they first released it. It's been a solid player for many years. My advice is to get the new 4K model when it's released. The DAC in the 4K player 'should' be superior to the 105. The 105 DAC is ok, but nothing to write home about. I bought a Mytek Brooklyn a few months ago and it blows the Oppo DAC away in regards to sound quality (kills it, actually). These days I only use my Oppo as a SACD transport and to play an occasional music concert disc.

Oppo was great with their upsampling, all region pal/ntsc dvd players. Blu, what's the point?

For someone who wants an all in one solution and will play Blu-Ray discs, whether they be movies, concerts or audio only ones (e.g. http://www.elusivedisc.com/Universal-Blu-Ray-Pure-Audio/products/794/).  I personally only use my 103D in my integrated main system for movies.  I have another 103D in a spare system and it too is primarily for movies, although I do have a hard drive attached with music files, including 2-channel and and multi-channel DSD and I have in a few instances streamed from my NAS to it.

If someone will not be playing Blu-Ray discs and just wants an all-in-one solution, then the 105D isn't horrible.  It isn't the equal of a separate DAC in many cases.  In addition to the $500 UDP-203 Blu-Ray player, Oppo will be releasing a new separate DAC shortly:

The Oppo 95 has a superior dac set up to the newer and pricier 105.  They tend to go for under $700.  If you like the sound of the sabre chip, I do and many don't, it is something to look at.
