Cheep and cheerful tube/valve amps
« on: 14 May 2021, 02:17 pm »
Hello!! Looking to get into the tube area of life.

So, I was going to jump in and build a Tu-8600s, then I thought about a few different builds.

So, I’m looking for suggestions for tube amps that are inexpensive, and have decent sound. Something I can tube roll, and if I get board or it warrants it, I would have no problem upgrading the caps, resistors, transformers, really anything.

Id like a little project basically. But again, something that’s not starting at 1800 for the parts with no tubes. I would be into someone’s project they did not finish of anyone has one..

Was looking on EBay and Amazon for inexpensive units, and they are filled. I bow down to all of you, or any of you whom have more knowledge and can point to some directions.

I don’t have a Pre-amp other then my Denon AVR which had a pre amp mode. I would be looking to purchase a Dac/preamp combo as well (maybe gustard x16 if it has pre amp ability have to look) again very open to suggestions to get me a cheep and cheerful tube amp!!

Must be cheerful!

I find it odd that they do not publish the wpc and parts used.

In the description it states the power is 2 to 3 watts which is about what you would expect from a single ended tube amp of this type.

Take a look at the kits from Bottlehead. They are fun to build with almost moron proof assembly instructions.
