I read with interest the many comments and opinions regarding the sonic difference(s) of the copper vs silver trannies but I have read that the nickel wound TVCs are also excellent. the Music First Audio preamps use 80% of nickel instead of copper or silver. I guess they have done some research and the fact they chose nickel must mean something.

All the S&B tvc's use 80% nickel core laminations inside.  The Music First transformers are exactly the same as the ones I use - except I use an OCC copper wire from Neotech and they source a quality wire from somewhere else. I don't expect the differences between 2 decent quality wires to amount to much - the core material and winding geometry will dominate the sonics. For silvers we both use the same silver magnet wire.
