Here's Salka Sól singing a duet with Ragnar Bjarnason, backed by the Karl Orgeltríó. Sadly, Ragga (83 when this was released) died a couple of months ago, but he had seen it all - so the song goes.

I promise that this isn't one of my typical 'and now for something completely different' video links. She's sort of like an Icelandic Haley Reinhart - sort of.

400 Million views....
And we have people like you to thank for the perpetuation of an abomination of "music" such as this.
Sir. If it were up to me, you would be banned from this forum, and all of your speakers would be pee'd on by a cat.
Have a good day.

Well Bob, while we're off the topic of music, have you ever heard a frozen lake sing?

Here's Jonna Jinton from the very north of Sweden - lives in a little, remote settlement of about ten people.

Ok, that's actually very cool.  :o  I never knew!

Speaking of the sound ice makes, "Ice Creep" makes some mesmerizing sounds.
At about the 4:00 mark, it almost sounds like it's marching.
(There is a couple bad words, so......)

The ladys voice on the other hand.....

Holy crap! As it approached, I thought of The Blob - it can't be stopped! Yeah, her voice was irritating (I could listen to Jonna talk all day long - English sounds so nice with a Swedish accent) and her commentary was dumb - she was even surprised that it went through the door. I guess she didn't realize how much weight was behind the leading edge. The video would have been more interesting had she shut up and let us hear the ice. I hadn't thought about that issue with living so close to a lake in such a cold climate, but it makes sense.

Jonna sings, by the way (you heard a bit on the video about the singing ice). She sang this Swedish anthem on live TV in Stockholm for the celebration at the end of the 2018 football season - her first time singing for a live audience. Obviously, this isn't that performance (she doesn't have a recording of that performance). Enjoy the scenery!

Regarding music and taste - there's something for everyone and there's no accounting for taste. I am aware that my taste in music lies well outside of most of those posting in this forum. I don't doubt that most who clicked the link for that Heilung video thought WTF (and probably clicked the X before the song actually started), but I'm here to share anyway. I suppose it's the same for BobM.

Agreed on all counts. When I see that ice video, I think there should be a song, "March of the Ice Crystals", something orchestral.
Her voice is beautiful, yet haunting. I'll be listening to her more, for sure. She's one of those "in the mood for...." type voices, but she's definitely got her place in my playlist. Thank you!

Indeed, an orchestral soundtrack is definitely appropriate - something ominous, and 'March of the Ice Crystals' is the perfect title.

I assume you are referring to Jonna – there are only a very few YouTube videos of her singing, and no available CDs, or anything (at least, not yet). Her YouTube focus is VLOGging, and her artistic focus is painting (using pigments that she makes from ash, dirt and whatnot from nature) and photography. Her husband, Johan, makes jewelry. In her VLOGs, she shares her very-different-from-mine (from the horrible to the sweet) life in the northern woods of Sweden, which I find very interesting.

At the bottom of the previous page, I provided a couple of links for songs from Myrkur's (Amalie Brunn) recent folk album release – available for download (or CD, or vinyl) on Bandcamp (and elsewhere). Until now, there would only be a song or two on each Myrkur album that weren't black metal, although many of those songs had their quiet parts where her voice really shone. I've listened to 'Folkesange' at least once every day for the last month. If you aren't put off by a foreign language and like that genre of music, I can't recommend that album enough. The last fully English language album I bought is Tool's 'Fear Inoculum', which I found well worth the very long wait. Like Frank Zappa once said, I've always known I was weird.

If another non-music video link is permitted, you should watch Jonna's latest, in which she was determined to cut a hole in the lake for an ice bath - true grit.

Yip, that's who I was talking about. I did subscribe to her channel. Some neat stuff on there. But it's at the "far end" of what I'm into, if that makes sense.
She could be the daughter is this guy (not musical)

Thanks for that. I stumbled across Bjørn's channel a few years ago, didn't subscribe, and then completely forgot. :duh:  He's an interesting character. I'm subscribed now.

Speaking of characters, there's a 'dreadful' place a bit further from Sweden than Norway, where Sigurboði lives, but it's better to just let him tell you all about what life there is like (funny, with an expletive, or three).

part 1  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N5_rgXuhttw

part 2  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kaqGqFWErg8

He is musical and here's the debut (he's developed that skill even further) of his throat singing, which, sadly, doesn't have anywhere near four hundred million views.

  I could talk about the two Norwegian drinking cups made from horns that I spent $60 on a while back, that as fate would have it, don't like containing whiskey.
Seems the "solvent" we drink was overpowering the natural material therefore giving the beverage a rank odor that was quite unpalatable.
My concern to the Norwegians was ignored, so I was forced to find a solution (because, as they say, "modern times require modern solutions").
But that's a story for another day, and certainly another topic. I feel we may be wearing thin the temperament of the mod on this Circle.

I started this Thread.

My favorite music video is my trumpet idol Clifford Brown playing on the Soupy Sales show in 1955. It's the only video of him playing. As I remember, Soupy found these tapes in his attic ~2000 iirc

You're probably correct. I posted a different performance of this song by Alexei on page65. It probably didn't get many views. I think we're outliers around here, but that's okay. Alexei is awesome!

I should link a video - Estas Tonne - Perception (Live in Zurich)
