Hey Ed,

This has been a trippy few years for us, as you know.

I really can't give more details without setting expectations that could be dashed.  We're working on DAC, Headphone amp, THREE, and other stuff that will share many components and synergize...

What I will say is that the roadmap is exciting and I'm trying to do things that are unique in a market that is increasingly complex and commoditizing...

Thanks for your hugs and interest.

Seth

Hello everyone,
In the past i use to visit this website everyday to know the latest news, to get some ideas and just to waiste some time. FOr the last few weeks it seems that not much is happening. If i would be living in the USA ( thank God i am not ) i already would have find me a secondhand sensation amp for my 2.1 home cinema set up because i think it will be an improvement and wait for the three to arrive.
Should i try to find a sensation in Europe?  Will the three be available this year? Will it get available at all?
Maybe virtue did start spreading the news about the soon to be born baby to soon?  I think they did
I was planning to have it as a birthday present in the end of August and i am willing to buy my own present this time.
Good luck and keep up the hard work and confidence, Edward

Another thing that is happening at Virtue is that Milli Vanilli is learning to sing...   That would be me a lot more about all what's inside the box.

For those of you who've never dug deep into this stuff, now is the time.  You can buy a 100Mhz scope for 400 usd and learn more than you need to know on the internet for free.  I'be been taking the iTunesU electrical engineering courses (Berkley) and reading various blogs.

The guy is very entertaining and I was just rolling listening to this one:

I'm probably the last guy on the block not to have read this:

LOL  :duh:

Check this one out: http://www.eevblog.com.  His tutorials on soldering are awesome:

Our new platform will be very open and if you know even a bit about this stuff, we'll make it easy for you to roll your own gear.  At the end of the day, "store bought" can only be so good....

Which one did you get?

I got a Rigol 1102E:

http://www.saelig.com/product/PSPC017.htm

You can buy the I2C/UART bus loggers and signal generators from folks on ebay cheap.

For audio measurements I'm using sound card oscilloscope software and hardware signal generator from ebay ($40).  I get tones from my iPad.

You can get 24-bit resolution < 20 khz from your sound card for $200 including software and attenuated probes.  To get that in a scope with 100Mhz bandwidth you'd be shelling out big bucks.

The PicoScope 4262 is what I really wanted ($1100) .. although at 5Mhz, I'd have needed Rigol anyway.  One day I'll get it as well.

You're now the second person to recommend that scope!

Snap, forgot this one...

The ultimate deal that I got is the VICHY VC8145 digital multimeter.  It's also a 1Ghz signal generator/meter and much, much more.  The guys at Radio Shack are denying that this was ever made.

For $160 it's also a category killer.

Hello,
I don't need help to find a new multimeter. I hope the new three will arrive before i feel the need to start changing my meter. Keep up the good news, Edward

Kazakhstan greatest country in the world
All other countries are run by little girls
Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium
 Other countries have inferior potassium

LOL.  Thanks for the good humor, Edward!  We're not waiting for me to become an EE before THREE will be made.  I enlisted the A-team for that effort... they've been paid well and we're waiting for (new) prototypes...

The new engineering team continues to impress me.  Quite honestly, this has been the most productive 3 months of engineering since we started the company.

There will be a "relaunch" per se in the fall.  Virtue 2.0 or Virtue Reloaded, so to speak...

Hello,
Yesterday i did put an advertisement on the site to find a sensation m901 in europe. And tomorrow i will receive a big transformer to make a choke input power supply that will have a 27 volts dc output.
BUT the last message gives me the illusion that there will be a better amp available soon. Will the Three be there in six months? I guess nobody knows. Will it blow away my recently bought m901 with the choke input power suplly?
If i can find a nice m901 and have it working within 2 weeks i will probably not even try making the change for a Three .
Let us hope fall is early is year
Kind greetings, Edward

How will the Three be different than the Two??  How will the three be different than the m901??

Any insight is appreciated! :D

l believe that Seth/Jason have stated on previous posts that the 901/451 will outperform the the Three in sound quality terms, but the Three will be a a lot more powerful, hope this helps.

Hello Tarzan and all the others,
I only remember reading that there will be no investigations in improving the sensation models. If the Three will only offer a bit more power but no other sonic advantages i mighjt as well get myself a 901. I am planning to use it in a 2.1 audio/video set up trying to get a higher resolution without a tendancy to sound aggresive. I prefer a more mellow sound which might turn out to be a little less detailed. It seems that changing the 100nf cap in the sensation is a real challenge so maybe i will get it done at Virtue. Did anyone ever try an old fashioned paper in oil cap or the more recent ones that appear on ebay recently. Mundorf supreme silver oli could be nice too BUT maybe the sensation allready has the right kind of mix between detail/ mellow/ enchantment that i am looking for. I think my choke input power supply will make it sing a bit more than the standard supply. I might wanna try the lifepo4 option too.
What is the capacity of the 4 pole panasonic used in the sensation?  I think i wanna use a similar seize in my '' outboard '' choke input power supply
Thanksalot for any usefull thoughts or information and kind greetings, Edward
Title: Sold out / going stealth...
Post by: virtue on 22 May 2012, 08:12 pm
Guys,

We have decided to keep whatever remaining stock and use it for warranty/repairs.  There are a few ICEBlocks and plenty of cable left, but that's it.

To the Tripath die-hards out there... the THREE will get slightly more out of these chips but it turns out that we did a darn good job with the ONE/TWO/SENSATION.  The THREE will be a sonic evolution, not a revolution.

So... with that said, we're going stealth for a few months.  I can't pre-announce anything... when the cakes are fully baked, we'll talk about them.  If you want "in" on the first pre-order, of course we'll announce here, but please do sign up for our newsletter on the home page.

Also, we're going to move warehouses to at this stage, destination unknown.  We're in discussions with other audio companies about co-fulfillment.  Jason continues to be involved as go-to repair and cables guy.  Cami has found a **real** day-job and we thank her for her AMAZING service.

We plan on re-emerging and re-launching in the fall, hopefully before Rocky Mountain.  It's been a long and interesting ride and we hope that you find the new gear worthy of the name "Virtue."  For a guy who's been around a few blocks, I'm getting pretty excited by what I'm seeing.  You'll have to just wait, sorry.  There's lots of fun gear out there to buy... and upgrade to Virtue at the right time ;-)

Very best,

Seth

Seth, are you saying the Three will outperform the Sensation
Title: Re: Hey Seth, Whats cookin at Virtue??

For me, the beauty of Sensation was in the 3 inputs, gorgeous Melissa enclosure, the tube buffer option (which is euphonic but annoying when you are changing volume as the oxidation/scratching gets worse over time), and the luscious input cap options...  Aside from multiple inputs, the rest goes away when you put it in a small case.

The final THREE has not been integration tested fully (the last "ready" prototype is in the trash heap).  So I just don't know what is better and what is worse.  There will I hope, be examples of both.  Sensation is hard to beat with certain speakers, and we may never out-do it...  We'll see.

Hugs,

Seth
