If you have multiple BDP's on the same network you need to call them different names; bdp-1, bdp-2, bdp-3, bdp-x, so you know which one you are controlling and so they don't all start playing the same tune

Hi Folks

Picked up an Acer Iconia Tablet Model 200 which has the Android Operating system for $300 Canadian.  There is a free program called DROID MPD CLIENT HD available from the Marketplace which is just excellent with the BDP -1 :thumb:

My Thanks to BB a new BDA-1/BDP-1 owner for the following post:

QMPDClient: A great alterntive to Gnome Player

For anyone looking for desktop PC applications for controlling your BDP-1, I'd highly recommend giving QMPDClient a try.   You can download it from here....

http://bitcheese.net/wiki/QMPDClient/

The QMPDClient interface usability is far better than the Gnome Music Player that's being promoted on here.  And I would say QMPDClient has the best Playlist editor of any MPD client I've tried so far.  It's nearly perfect.

The only big downsides to QMPDClient is lack of search by genre and I couldn't figure out how to enable album artwork (although it supposedly supports this).  But other than this QMPDClient is better than Gnome Player in every way imaginable and far easier for my wife to use.

Gnome Player is just awful.  It may look impressive, but  I could write a whole paper on why the user interface is overdone and qualifies as a fail.  Just like the BDP-1 itself, sometimes simpler is better.

Hi Folks

Just an update: there are a number of wireless interface applications available that work with the Bryston BDP-1 Digital Player using the Android Operating System.

The applications we have currently tested are:

• DROID MPD CLIENT HD
• MPDROID
• BitMPC
• PMIX
• DROID MPD

These FREE applications are available on the Android Marketplace.

These APPS were tested on the Samsung Galaxy Tablet (7 inch version) and the Acer Iconia Tablet Model 200. Specifically the ‘MPDROID’ and ‘MPDROID HD’ worked extremely well.

Hi James,

Looking for the Mac version of the mentioned QMPD interface, I re-found and re-evaluated Theremin. An older mPD client, but with an amazing search function, fast and clean. Genre, Artist, Album.

Interface is a little simple, no eye-candy, but album art does work. Installation couldn't be simpler. Creation of playlists is extremely fast and simple (until now)...

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/24688/theremin

for the techies: https://github.com/pweiskircher/Theremin

maybe some inspiration can be found for the Max interface search function..

(when MAx2 is on the search results in Theremin disappear within a second or two. Apparently Max2 does something to clear the info for the other interfaces/clients. which is unwanted behavior in a multi tasking environment...)

Hi James, quick question if I may, there has been some talk about a combined SP3/BDP iPad app (although after the BDE-1 I am not getting too excited..) if it happens would it be Android as well or just Apple products?

Cheers

Hi

I assume we would start with the IPAD as it is much more popular.

Thanks James, good to know. I would assume it is a much more stable platform on which to develop, as well.

Yes.  I have also used the mac address.  I always have to fiddle with my ipod to get a connection (I am around 3ft from my wireless bridge).  When I try to clear the playlist I get frequent lockups of mpod.  I then have to uninstall and reinstall the software then struggle for a connection.  There has to be a better way..........

How does your BDP-1 connect to your home router? direct ethernet cable? wireless bridge? powerline av kit?

When this occurs does your BDP-1 still report an IP address?

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Folks,

Tried the ASUS 10 inch Tablet Model TF101-A1 TEGRA-2 (uses the Android operating system) and works fine with the Bryston BDP-1 Digital Player

Hi,

Just found the Mac MPD client MpcOSX: http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Client:MpcOSX. First experimenting learns that it is blazingly fast and has a tiny footprint.

It found the BDP1 immediately, I did not have to input any settings, and read the database in an eyewink. Sees all music as one big database, no different drives whatsoever so all is listed alphabetically. A bit awkward at first, but within the half-hour it feels quite nice to be honest. Not the hardware (drive) centered filesystem, but more music centered than BDP Teak.

Thought it was good to let you all know.

HI James,

Believe so, the 'OSX' points in that direction I guess..

http://mpd.wikia.com/wiki/Client:MpcOSX (without the .)

again, very basic (no album art) but extremely fast and small.

Marius
