If you like Gnome and have had trouble installing it on a mac, there is a work around, if you could call it that.

Since I need a windows environment on my iMac for work, I installed VMWare fusion 4.  This provides a virtual environment into which you install windows (this was all very easy to do, trust me).  Gnome installed easily as it would into any windows environment.  Oh, and it works.  No need to boot into windows, you simply open VMware and start a windows session.  You have access to both the Lion and Windows OS and desktops!

The timing was good:  a new iMac with Lion + version 4 of VMware + windows 7.  Since I hadn't installed bootcamp yet, I didn't bother.  No need with VMware (although it can work with bootcamp if you have that installed already).

Very cool stuff,
Phil

Having used both fusion and bootcamp, my advise is to avoid the pain of bootcamp and just use VMWare.

I am trying to figure out how to install Gnome on my windows laptop. There seem to be different sites with different versions, etc. Can someone point me to a link where I can get this and maybe some pointers on installing it. Thanks for your help!

Looking very good James. I have been using my laptop a little more to control the BDP lately, so this will be excellent.

Do you have an idea of when the next release will be? Or any other new features you might be adding?

Cheers

Looks great james.
Pass my praise the the software team.

How will it perform with an iPad?
Will it be able to handle rotating the iPad and re-rendering correctly to fit the display?
Max currently can't handle that very elegantly

What about scrolling within fields? That was an issue on Max for quite a while until resolved recently.

Hi Terry,

The demo I saw is on the iPad so that should work fine.

Hi Folks

I have purchased 2 Western Digital 1TB Passport drives in the last while and they are super with the BDP. I formatted them Fat32 and loaded 1 with FLAC and 1 with WAVE. They load fast and are dead quiet :thumb:

Thanks James.  Why the larger drives?  Were you running out of room with your 500GB drives?  These WD Passport drives get their power through USB?

Hi

Just for testing - wanted to try the larger drives for load time and also wanted to test FLAC vs Wave on the exact same drives with the same files.

Any discernible differences between FLAC and WAVE?

Perhaps a fresh thread on this one?  Something that could (possibly) improve the audio should be interesting to many.  Also, wondering what other's on the forum who have done this comparison have found...

I have done this comparison in the past and not heard a difference.  I have friends who do hear a difference.

Will try and run this comparison again sometime this week using hi-rez music.

Sweet!

Hopefully it has some of the improvements I asked Berrie for.

I'll download it tonight when I get home.
