Looking for 8" OB woofer advice
« on: 19 Mar 2024, 03:24 pm »
I have a project I'm working on. I would love to use 4 M-165 woofers vertically but I don't have the space. 2 8" woofers would work out perfectly. Has anyone used or know of a driver that would work well? I have found some from a spec standpoint that look good but just wondering if anyone has any real world experience with any.
Thanks

HAL has plans for an 8in sub tower using Rythmik drivers: https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=187092.0

The problem is, those drivers are not available at this time. Rythmik does have 8” drivers for sealed out ported use. They have a midbase speaker that uses these drives in a front mounted configuration.

We actually have plenty of stock of the 8" subwoofers. We've also been working with Rythmik to have them make a custom HX310 for OB use with the 8" subs.

GREAT!!! Glad to hear they are back. I'll be building a pair of speaker stands for the NX-Studios for the Lone Star Audio Fest.

That answers the question of what I'll be bringing to the show.

The 8" drivers aren't on the website. Are they 8 or 16 Ohm?

The Rythmik Audio HX310 should be able to drive up to a 4x8in tower of the 16 Ohm drivers.  I used modified HX300 servo amps that are not made anymore for the show since  the HX310 is being developed.

The two 4x8in modular towers is what I built for CAF 2023 in the thread listed earlier in the last post.

Killian made the prototype flat packs for the sub modules, tops and bases.  I built them and had a local cabinet shop do the finish.

I know this has probably bee answered somewhere in the forum but how far down do the 8in's go?

Wow, so what if the NX-Otica or Extreme had a new Rythmik 310 plate amp driving a pair of 8” open baffle subs?  I would want a pair tomorrow.  Is this a possibility?  Basically a full range open baffle offering using these 8” subs??

We're working on developing a version of this using 3x 8" subs below the MTM section
here's an older version I've shared in the past:

The 3-8" sub bottom half of that would make a great stand for my NX-MTM kit... and likely more aesthetically pleasing.

One of the cool things about this setup is that, with the 8" subs that can be tuned, you'll be able to give the mid-bass a little "juice", if it needs it.

Out of curiosity, would this be a 2024, 2025, or later release? I’m eagerly paying attention to this project or perhaps the next iteration of the old school lineup.

We're hoping to have them ready by the end of this year, but there are some technical things our CNC guy is working to figure out first.
