Hey Bryston-folk,

Does anyone know if the SST 2 line of amps (9B SST 2 here) likes balanced power supplied by units like the Equitech 1.5Q?

Don't know about Equitech, but I use a 20a balanced Torus on my 7B-sst2x2 and they like it fine as does a fw other pieces I have connected to it.

Oops,my mistake the Equitech has 20a max.
When I seen balanced, I thought she was 240v.

Where's James when you need him? He's probably off skiing the last runs of the season... no wait, that's me!

I am not sure but I believe if the Equateck is a balanced 60/60 it is not recommended in a domestic environment without specific warning labels ?

Would you advise against using balanced power for the 9B SST 2 amp?

Maybe a Furman SPR20i instead for the power amp?

Hi

Yes the Furman or the Bryston BIT would be a better choice.  Make sure it is an isolation transformer.

Actually the NEC code doesn't permit permanent balanced transformers in a domestic environment. But then a high tech listening room is not like a bedroom or a kitchen.  In any case there are several NEC rules the go with balanced transformers.
See NEC Article 647 :: Sensitive Electronic Equipment.

The SPR20i isn't a true conditioner like say the Furman IT-Reference 20i or 15i. It's main purpose is voltage regulation and per the Furman literature you only need it if you have consistent and rather large power fluctuations. Notice how much heavier the IT-Reference 20i and 15i are, that's because they have very large toroidal transformers like the Bryston BIT15 and BIT20. In Furman's setup guide the SPR20i is typically connected to the wall and one of Furman's other conditioning products like the IT-Reference 20i, 15i or non reference series products such as the Elite-20 PF I are then connected to the SPR20i.

I like the Torus/Bryston approach for voltage regulation in their AVR series because it's added to the main units rather than needing a separate dedicated unit.

Would you not use the SPR-20i to regulate voltage and connect the Equitech to it?

Yeah if you wanted regulation then that setup would work. If you don't already own the Equitech I would just get a BIT15 AVR or a BIT20 AVR, that way you kill 2 birds with one stone.

Simcoe Sound in Barrie Ont as I'm sure there are more.
Should be Bryston dealer list on the bryston web page also.
There are a Bit15-a and and Bit 20a on US audiomart
Perhaps you can haggle a lower price.
