Props to Rockadanny for taking the time to list his. I would fill a page alone with different times I saw the Grateful Dead.   I started in the 1960's and saw most of the popular bands of that period. I continue to go to shows at age 74.

Started with the Beach Boys in a high school football field, ca. 1962  :o, too many in between for my hearing, and finished with Charlie Daniels last week.

BTW, Charlie is 81 and can still bring some rock with the git and fiddle.

I also have attended more concerts than I could list, my first concert was in 1971, Jethro Tull with Yes opening the show.

1972 was probably my favorite year for concerts. In June alone I saw the Rolling Stones (June 3) Jethro Tull (June 11) and Led Zeppelin (June 19). Other favorite concerts that year were the Mahavishnu Orchestra and Mountain.

Maybe due to the fact that I grew up in that era I felt that the bands touring back then were the best, and since the late 70s I really haven't found many new bands that I really like. It was a great time to be a young concert goer!

Rock concert? One. Friend won two tickets to see Boy George. and invited me along.
That is it for Rock Concerts. (Ear plugs required and used.)

Classical? Several types of Classical recitals over the years. Non-amplified chamber music, ballet, (surprising how much noise the dancers' shoes make scuffling around the floor) and some full orchestra.

I was already old before I got into Jazz. So I never went to any places to hear it in person.

Then the deafening noise at all movie theaters.. Not for me.

I am the sort who thinks for the price of going to a concert once. I can own a media product and replay it whenever forever... Plus I do not have to stand the whole time just because every other idiot decided they want to stand (so if I do not stand too, all I get is to view the ass of the person in front of me, in my face. then the smell of farts, beer, dope, and various stinks, avoid folks coughing on me and vomiting on me. Plus the endless touching in the crowd. And the deafening overly loud noise being played a few foolishly call music.

I've been to a few shows (played in even more as a drummer in a covers band for ~20 years).  Here are the three that really stand out:

Bruce Springsteen "Born In The USA" tour, Devaney Auditorium, Lincoln Nebraska, 1984

Seeing one of Rock's top showmen at the very top of his game is usually a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.  This was mine.  Two words: Religious Experience.

Nirvana "Pacific Rim Tour", Pink's Garage, Honolulu Hawaii, 1992

I've never been so terrified/thrilled/mesmerized at a concert.  Kurt had just got married to Courtney and walked on stage (late) in pajamas with a pine tree air freshener around his neck.  All the band's gear was local pawn shop junk (they brought no equipment on the tour) and got totally obliterated by the end of the show (no encores).  I got spat on, cursed at, and sonically assaulted, and that was just by Mr. Cobain!  The crowd was bonkers and I thought I would die in the mosh-like stage crush.  "Nevermind" was only a few months old and the mania around this band was just starting to build.  I was a witness to history.  And I survived!  Pink's Garage burned to the ground a year or two later further cementing the unrepeatableness of this event.

My Morning Jacket "Circuital Tour", Merriweather Post Pavilion, Columbia Maryland, 2011

Absolute audience joy, sonic perfection, a truly sublime musical experience.  MMJ is imho the greatest American Band of the 21st Century.  They might've been a bit past their peak by 2011 but you wouldn't have noticed.  Bonus: Band of Horses was the opener.  I don't always cry at concerts but my face was damp all through this one.  A very special time indeed.

as some have said, too many to remember or list.

my first show was as a 3-4 grader at Chicago's Ravinia Field. my parents took me to see Ike and Tina Turner.
the first concert i paid for was in Chattanooga Tn with Rush warming up for Kansas. it should have been the
other way around.

the best times i had were always at smaller venues...
X at Club Foot in Austin
The Big Boys or The Dicks at Raul's in Austin

the most amazing performances would be either:
a night with Frank Zappa & the Mothers in Dallas   -and-
Muddy Waters in Austin. he warmed up for Clapton. sitting on a stool he mesmerized the crowd and
put Clapton's later performance to shame.

Not quite as many concerts as GregC above, but I did see a lot of shows back in the 70s, my favorite was Jethro Tull on their Thick as a Brick tour June 11, 1972. The week before, on June 4th I saw the Rolling Stones at the same venue, and the week after, June 19th, Led Zeppelin, but it was Tull that really blew the roof off of the Seattle Center Coliseum. The Mahavishnu Orchestra a few months later was another exceptional concert experience. I have to say that for me, 1972 was the peak year for live music, and I was just a 16 year old kid.

Yikes.  Impressive attendance for sure for some in this thread.  Can only say I'm in awe.

My list... a fraction.  With that said,  these two for me were just superior in all respects.  So good in fact I would see them weekly for the next ten years if possible.

Delain &

Been to my share of concerts, but one stands out because of it's "Shock & Awe" factor.
A friend of mine had some tickets he couldn't use, so he offered them to me.
It was to a Pink Floyd concert.
I had heard of the group but was not familiar with their music.
He said "trust me" and I scooped up the tickets.

The seats turned out to be 4th row, dead center.
It was the "Dark Side of the Moon" tour.
My wife and I were TOTALLY blown away with this musical tour de force.
Never had such an unexpected concert experience.....

Not sure where to post this -

We did a Beatles Tribute gig last Saturday night.
Big crowd and was a lot of fun!!
These are a couple of guitars I used - Rickenbacker 381V69 and Taylor Fall Limited Koa.
Also used my trusty Rickenbacker 1993Plus 12-string for a lot of those George Harrison riffs!

@Slam - re: the Wild Tchoupitoulas ...

Only took me 43 days to answer  :duh:

So long ago, all I can recall was their wild costumes and their wildly infectious beat. EVERYBODY was up and dancing - even ME! (I never dance in public).
They were terrific!

Heck mine is gonna be a long one but here goes nothing.

Miranda Lambert, Charlie Daniel's, Dierks Bentley, Luke Bryan, Jason Aldean, Craig Morgan, Trace Adkins, Jason Isbell, Chris Stapleton, Nitty gritty dirt band, Jamey johnson, Eric Church and a few other country artists I cannot remember. I'm a fan of real country so half the bands I listed I saw because of girlfriends.

Metallica, megadeth(numerous times), anthrax (many times), slayer(a dozen times), lamb of god(many times), suicidal tendencies, machine head(many times), children of bodom(many times), Amon Amarth, Black Label Society, municipal waste, DRI, Nuclest Assault, Trivium, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Rob Zombie, five finger death punch. I've seen more metal shows than I can remember.

Chuck Ragan, dave haus, flogging molly, dropkick Murphy, the loved ones, lucero, menzingers, the bouncing souls, Frank Turner, the dead pets, the Briggs, agnostic front, hatebreed, turmoil. There are more pink and hardcore bands than I can remember.

I've seen the dead, molly hatchet, the Allman brothers, and other older bands.

I got to at least 10 shows a year for he past 12 years and have seen a few before that. I can't remember all the bands I've seen because a good chunk have been festivals.

Yeah, I'm old and didn't go to concerts all that much. Here's my short list:

1) Leo Kottke & Shawn Phillips @ Morgantown WV (early 1970's)
2) The Outlaws & Billy Joel @Morgantown WV
3) America & Eric Carmen @ Morgantown WV
3.5) Ozark Mountain Daredevils @ Alderson- Broaddus College  in WV
4) David Bowie @ Pittsburgh PA
5) Kiss/Mott/Rush @ Pittsburgh PA  1976?
5.5) Delbert McClinton/Tony Furtado @ Brundage Resort ID   (2000-something)
6) Foreigner @ Boise ID
7) Steve Miller @ Nampa ID

I've been to other concerts by local Boise artists such as Earnest Orange & Thomas Paul and many others that I've failed to mention + several country concerts, but this looks to be a rock concert oriented thread, so I'll leave it at that.

I'm not even going to try and list all the concerts I've attended - for the past decade I've been going to an average of 100 shows a year. Instead, I'll list the live concerts I've attended that made their way into a live CD, DVD, or TV show.

I was there for:

Sarah McLachlan's VH-1 Storytellers performance (1998)
Matt Nathanson's live CD "At the Point" (two of the four shows) (2005)
Sarah McLachlan's Mirrorball DVD taping (1999)
Vienna Teng Live at the World Cafe DVD taping (2007)
Vienna Teng's The Moment Always Vanishing CD taping (2009)
Tara MacLean's Live From Austin CD taping (2000)
Steve Earle's Austin City Limits taping (2019)

(FWIW, being there in person was always better than the final released result).

@tbheels:

I saw R. Buchanan but it was not good-- late 80's/early 90's in Portland, Maine. He had some weird-ass mutant tele with a Jackson-style headstock and a very poor backing band. It was depressing.
On the other hand, I saw SRV at the same venue on his "In Step" tour and that was just phenomenal-- one of the best shows I ever attended.

Little Richard at Gröna Lund, Stockholm, 1969 or 1970.

Gröna Lund is infamous for being the only concert venue (far as I know) that cut the juice  when The Beatles were playing.  The kids wanted to ride the merry-go-round and there was not enough juice for both that and The Beatles at the same time.

Heres a laugh. In 1978 I was 16. Big fan of the Rolling Stones. They were scheduled to play near me in Chicago. I told my best friend "Weve gotta see the Stones. Theyre in their 30s now getting old and this will probably be the last time they tour" LOL was that the understatment or what! Great show. Looking back Jagger WAS "young" and hyper.

Not so funny, in 1980ish my friend and I had Led Zep tickets. J. Bonham passed. Never saw them.

Then there was Heart in 1980s. My friend Jim's FAVORITE band. As Mott the Hoopel opened Jim slumped over. Took him to Medical. He was out of it.  Too much of something ,but ok. I asked if he could stay there. They said NO take him home. I gathered my other friends and went home. Never saw Heart.

The wife and I, have tickets for Thursday (tomorrow) of the 4 day CaliRoots festival..
It gets a little expensive to stay in Monterey during the Memorial Day weekend, especially when there are 45 bands in town for the festival..

So 1 day, is about all we are willing to spend this time around.
There is about 10 bands playing Thursday, but we are only trying to see 4 of them

I went to see a Wishbone Ash tribute band last week. I call it a tribute band because only one original member remains. That said, they were very good and did all of the songs on the album Argus to start with.
Next up will be a acoustic Hot Tuna concert in June. I saw the Airplane a couple times and Hot Tuna as well back in the 1970's
For those that mentioned Led Zep I was fortunate to see them 4 times. First show was their second stop on their first American tour. I knew right away they were special.

In 1965 I took my girlfriend to the Hollywood Bowl to see Joan Baez perform. Towards the end of her performance she stopped and waved someone in from the side of the stage. Some guy came out who she introduced as Bob Dylan. I had never heard of him and his singing didn't sound like any kind of "singing" I had ever heard before. I even apologized to my girlfriend for the lousy end of the Baez concert.

The link below has a footnote indicating the Bob Dylan had opened for Joan Baez at the Hollywood Bowl in 1963. I specifically recall that Bob Dylan came on towards the end of the concert so I am quite sure that it was the 1965 concert that I attended.

I've seen around 200 shows, a few that stand outs were:

Ozzy headlining in a small hockey arena, Young Canadians (Art Bergmann)  opened, Motor head was second up
and insane loud, Then Ozzy. Great show and glad I got to see Randy live.

Roger Waters  In The Flesh Tour 2000 at the Gorge, the tours only open air show. Early in the day while attending  the
the refreshments garden an airliner flew about 1500 Ft or so overhead, I commented to the person I was with pointing to it and said
"bet that's the bands plane" the responses was "no way"  Well that evening as the show was about to start
that plane came up the valley behind the stage pulling up and over the top of the stage right in sync with the opening
notes of Waters doing "In The Flesh" never seen that before or since. Was pretty cool.

Honorable mention goes to the Toxic twins having AC/DC as the opening act and man they were a killer opening act in 1978
and the Aerosmith  comes out and does the worst show I have ever seen, including guitars going dead, singing wrong lyrics,
and even starting a song or 2 with different members actually play different tunes so a few aborted takes were done.

Compared to the folks here, I haven't attended that many.  This is the first time I've thought about the list.  Mostly rock for me:  1) RUSH, Detroit, 1991, 2) Pink Floyd, Minneapolis, 1995, 3) James Brown, Atlanta, 1996, 4) U2, Chicago, 1997, 5) The Who, multiple in 2006, 6) Steely Dan, Chicago, 2019, 7) Judas Priest, multiple, 2018-2022.  The tough part for me (as I get older and enjoy this hobby more), is that I notice the poor audio quality and limitations of arena/open space amplification and it really takes away from the experience.  I don't know much about Pro Audio, and I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I feel like if I had access to the mixing board and some DSP equipment, I could improve the sound at my seat at the shows.  Probably just wishful thinking from a neophyte.

is that I notice the poor audio quality and limitations
Pro-audio speakers and amps have never been as good as they are today, the amps used today are Class AB or Class D. In the past things were poor or max sub-standard.
