Unusual bands for AC members
« on: 24 Sep 2009, 12:15 pm »
I was surfing Amazon and came across some interesting bands I'd like to share with AC members. The first band is called Yat-Kha and I have purchased all of their albums except one. The recording quality is fantastic on all of their CDs. The roots of the music style is Tuva throat singing, but with an interesting contemporary twist. I really liked the Re-covers album here -

Another interesting band is called Corvus Corax. It's a German band playing some original compositions in what I guess is some kind of Medieval style. Very cool! Their Best of Corvus Corax is a good palce to start.  http://www.amazon.com/Best-Corvus-Corax/dp/B0007ZEOWI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1253794433&sr=1-1

Where do I begin :)  I have plenty of unusual bands on CDs

I just bought a CD on which all songs are sung in the Hawaiian language. A 2d or 3d generation Hawaiian woman, Amy Gilliom, with a great voice collaborated with a Hawaiian pop musician to produce a very good variety on Hawaiian Tradition Unusual unless you are Hawaiian  8)

Rasputina is a Cello-based woman-led rock band that tends to celebrate the darker side of the Victorian era. I have Thanks for the Ether

Another one is Quartetto Gelato, a 'pop' chamber music group with an Italian bent. I have 3 of their albums.

A fourth is Moxy Fruvous, a group of 5 Canadian vocalists from Juliard School who also are talented on various instruments. Very pop, funny, very good male vocalizations. I have several of their albums, my favorite is Bargainville

I don't know of anything else like Corvus Corax, but they're one of my favorite bands now. Isotank used to carry a lot of their earlier CDs, but they're pretty expensive. Perhaps they are imports.
