All you have to do is follow the money...

Go to wall street, check out the big stocks (Sony et al), then look at who their money makers are (Justin Bieber anyone?) then where they are putting millions of ad dollars ad. It's a pretty well tried and true formula pioneered in the 50's (Elvis Presley et al). Le plus ca change, le plus ce la meme chose as the immortals once said.

It's all good - someone is buying the stuff right?

In the meantime, thank God for the internet.

Gonna add another to my s*t list : Gotye - "Somebody I Used to Know".  Seemed clever & somewhat catchy at first, now I'm begging for the whining to stop. Or should I say "whinging" as they would down-under so Wally gets the message.  I wonder if artists ever get sick of their own music being overplayed?  Maybe not over the noise of the cash register.

At Crossroads Guitar Festival 2004 I heard Joe Walsh say about Rocky Mountain Way "If I knew I was going to have to sing this song for the next 30 years, I'd have written something different."

Being an audiophile, I have to add Diana Krall to the list.

And because I hate his music so much, anything by that Brokeback wannabe cowboy pop crapper James Taylor.

I love this post.

I think I would rather listen to The knacks My Serona then have to listen to Aerosmith's Dream On ever again.
Psy's song Gangnam Style is starting to making me ill.

I heard this album soo many times in the 70's-80's that over 30 years later, I still hate the album that I couldn't get enough of "back in the day". Frampton Comes Alive! is the definition of most overplayed IMHO.

As I said FM Top 40 sucks, all these artist you mention were Top 40 in its time, Aerosmith are specially annoying due the ugly vocalist and his screams.

Fortunately I was abroad during peak Frampton-mania, so I will admit being guilty of still greatly enjoying that album!

When was Led Zeppelin overplayed, back in the day, or more recently?

Every day. Almost every classic rock station has played them to death. I'm in fact, so sick and tired of them, I simply can't play one second of them anymore at home.

I'm not knocking the band mind you, just sick of them.....

Stairway To Heaven and Smoke on The Water are omnipresent here in local  self entitled ''quality'' rock stations.

Norah Jones. I absolutely hate her with a passion. My worst possible nightmare would be having to sit in the dentists chair having a root canal while she plays in the background. I work in a retail/ custom install store and refuse to play her when people come in to demo equipment.

So what do artists dying from overdoses have to do with this subject? You are a strange man.
