Title: Channel Islands VMB1 Owner Manual
Post by: TBOMB on 23 Sep 2023, 02:52 pm
Hi
I have been in the Audio hobby since 1975. Wouldn't want to mention how many different pieces of gear I have gone thru. I am glad to be a part of this website.  I am looking for an owner's manual ( copy or original ) for a VMB1 ?  If anyone could help I would greatly appreciate this. I don't mind paying for one. Thanks....

That doesn't look like a preamp, that looks like a woofer

The CIA VMB1 is basically a power amplifier based on the TI/National Semiconductor LM3886 chipset. Depending on application, it could be called a gainclone.

That being said, what information do you need to know?

Just general info.

That’s funny.

The amp puts out about 45 watts RMS/8 ohms, and 75 watts/4 ohms. Overall gain should be about 26dB. This translates into 950mV RMS (or just under 1V RMS) for 45 watts RMS output into an 8 ohm load. Input impedance is likely to be nice and high to make it compatible to a wide variety of preamplifiers, circa 47K ohms or so (hard to be exact without measuring the amp).

This is similar to datasheet specs on the LM3886 chip. I would look at that to be honest as most manufacturers divulge little other than dimensions and weight of an amplifier.

Best,
Anand.
