I have been picking up a lot of Dave Holland lately (forget the titles off the top o' my head).

His stuff is consistenly excellent. Surely not easy listening - It can be very challenging and if your head's not in the game it can be too much.

But such smart, thinking-man's jazz!  Not at all Head-Solo-Head format but so much more.

Speaking of Dave Holland . . Extentions (ECM).  Oh, my bad, re-released (1990) in 2008.  Well, what's with 2010 anyway?  What if I was in an ashram, or an asylum, or Vermont?  I was conscious in 2010, I swear!  That's all I am at liberty to say.

Yes, we are veering a little off topic but I can't avoid mention of Dave Holland without recommending his solo bass work. Emerald Tears is amazing.

Great rec's everyone. Thank you! I've gotten so mired in the mostly blue note jazz of the 50's and 60's I sometimes forget to check out newer stuff.
