Forgot to post.  The social coordinator says it looks free that weekend.  I'd love to come.  Let me know if there's anything I can bring.

Bryan

Awesome...Looking forward to meeting you.

With as many people as what has said they are going to attend...(since I have this posted on other forums as well.).we won't be doing a full meal as what we had originally intended..so far there will be over 30 + people here..so we will be going with finger foods this time along with beer & soda..deserts..If you have a special wine or drink you prefer..please bring it along..

We're all used to bringing ' a dish to pass '.  Just let us know what you need.  Same goes for equipment.  There's such a variety in our group that we can probably get pretty much anything you want to see/hear/etc.

Looking forward to it.  Don't forget to post/PM specifics as to time/address/etc.

Thanks Bryan..

If someone wants to bring an extra set of speaker stands and a record cleaner...that would be awesome..I have a Adcom 3 way switcher on loan from the Skiing Ninja to use to in the upper HT..so that's covered..but could use one for the 2 channel set ups we will be demo'ng...Extra cables are always usefull too...We are going to have quite a bit of equipment brought by the Emotiva guys.. You all are welcome to bring along any speakers you want to listen to..as well as any vinyl or cd's or DVD's

As too the food aspect...If you guys have a favorite food dish you like and want to bring it..that would be swell...same for a prefered beverage..We are going to be having beer and soda here..along with some wines..

Start time is around noon...running until I ('m guessing 6-7 pm..) got to allow time for packing up and such..

Anyone coming...please PM me and I will send you my telephone number and address..

Hi Mac

Unfortunately, something has come up and I'll not be able to make it this afternoon.  Very sorry for the late notice.  I hope y'all have a great time.  Don't forget to take and post some pics.

A big thank you Mac and Sue for hosting a great gettogether!

Well, to all that weren't able to make it, you missed a delicious spread and a fun tri-level event.  Mac's house is a split level so there were three floors and 5 areas for hi-fi.   There was an audio system on the main floor where multiple speaker systems were rotated through, the main home theatre on the next level down w/subwoofer and various towers to switch back and forth (with a cute little tubed Shanling CD player system in a side area), and another home theatre system on the next level down plus a nifty little office system based on a Jolida integrated tubed amp.

The highlight of course was the Emotiva group from Kentucky who brought in a plethora of electronics and speakers to listen to.

For me, the best time was listening to the owner of Emotiva when he was 'holding court' afterwards and explained the changing nature of the audio marketing system.  The old business model of manufacture/importer/distributor, manufacturer's representative, retailer that I grew up with decades ago, which provided the marketplace with such a rich diversity of quality and prodcuts in the past -  has morphed into an unholy oligarchy in which 'big box' stores basically run the show via their purchasing and marketing power. The audio manufacturer is facing a huge market entry level barrier, in that they can't compete with the marketing power of the big box stores to bring products to the consumer.  The big box stores don't give a rat's ass about audio quality and are interested strictly in profit margin, period. Most people think of money as merely a medium of exchange for trading goods.  It does perform this function, but there is also a higher and more important less visable function, that exists when there is a true market economy.  The flow of money acts as an information channel which tells the producer what the consumer both wants and doesn't want.  The money flow in a true free market economy marketplace communicates the consumers demands of quality, quantity, location, and price. The big box stores act as a communication wall between the manufacturer and the consumer both through the fact that its dictates to the manufacturer in the same manner as a 'command economy' (as opposed to a true free market economy) and by that fact that it removes such a large portion of the money stream.  Less money flow equals less information.  This leaves the consumer with lower quality and less selection, similar to various "command economies", whether they are based on socialism, fascism, or communism. Somebody other than the consumer is telling the manufacturer what the consumer wants. Fortunately the internet has created an information end run around the big box stores which are an impediment to true market forces.
The internet reduces the market entry barrier costs to the manufacturer and has the potential (if the manufacture figures out how to utilize it) to vastly reduce the distribution and marketing expense. *IF* the manufacture sucessfully utilizes the internet as a replacement to the old 'manufacterer's representative - distributor - retailer' component of the marketing chain, then all of the money that used to be consumed in that portion of the production-consumption chain is freed up to improve the product quality, increase product variety, and to reduce the price to the consumer.  Emotiva has figured out how to utilize the internet, in spades.

Also Emotiva was handing out door prizes of Emotiva clothing, keychain lights, and that type of stuff.  BUT! there was also a drawing, two drawings actually. One drawing for a free pair of speakers and one drawing for free electronics!  Don't you wish you came now?

Wish I could have made it.  Had it on the calendar and ready to go but sometimes life gets in the way.  Hoping to hear from others.  Maybe I can sneak over there sometime to take a listen - though obviously without the Emotiva gang.  :(

Your assessment of what Ken said  was correct....you and all of the others who didn't show did miss out on a great GtG...The food was great..the drinks were ice cold...the music and equipment was awesome..and the comradery was utterly fantastic...

While I didn't have a decent camera...others did...and you can read and see many of the photos here...http://emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=off&action=display&thread=5370...the last 3 pages have the photos on it..

Maybe Ken or Joe will chime in on the equipment and how things sounded to them

?Maybe Ken or Joe will chime in on the equipment and how things sounded to them.?

Mac and Sue thank you for hosting such a wonderful event! When you said the Emotiva guys were going to be there, I assumed another local/regional web forum group and was pleasantly surprised to meet the ?EMOTIVA GUYS?!

I feel like a kid in a candy store at these events, so much cool gear to see and hear!
Some of your gear I especially enjoyed hearing were the Shanling MC-30, that has to be the ideal system for an office or bedroom. Your modded speakers are really nice. The turntable kicked too!  The big plasma was the icing on the cake for your HT.

I lost track of the dining room system(s), something seemed to be getting swapped around with every CD. What were the speakers with the outboard x-overs?

If I knew it was going to turn into a shooting range, I would have brought my hearing protection.   Seriously, that was an awesome test/demo piece!

I also liked hearing your Seaton sub, a lot of talk going around about that sub. How does he do it, a great value in subs!

A great event and sooo much stuff to see and hear!

I could consider the Emotiva gear, esp. the electronics, next time I'm looking for something.

Thanks Again,
Joe
