Ok, the half chang did not turn out as perfect, nothing ever does.  This week a Frugal Horn with Fostex 126 and a set with the 126 Enabled Planet 10 drivers.  One will be black, the other.... not sure yet.  Why two, I traded for some drivers=cabinets with a neighbor.  We will put them next to each other and let you know our listening results in the next week or so.  Design straight from the FH site, damping as designed.

Off to cut wood.... pad the inside and paint...

Have a set done, working on mixing and matching fill, stuffing and batting... Anyone have any starting points they want to share..  I have the triangle filled fairly loose, and the bats are just stapled to the other side so they do not fall out.  With Chris's suggestion, i left one side open so I could modify it as needed....

Very similar... but i thought i was supposed to have some batting in the front cavity too.  just light???  Chris had talked about using netting to keep it from dropping down and out the bottom???

The top and back (closed v portion) look the same/similar.

As I recall the plans when I built mine did not call for damping in the front cavity for the FE126En driver like the other drivers. I was glad because I didn't want to rig a net to hold it in place.

I could never find any 1/2 inch cotton/wool felt as the plans called for but instead used the carpet backing from an old Ford truck which was the same thickness.

Very nice. I really like the finish you put on those.  How do they sound?

I always use general stains and this one actually has blk spray paint rubbed in to the edges for the dark sunburst look.  It is pretty dark but the guy i did these for wanted blk.

Ok finally done with second pair. Love them for all music. The integration of a small fast sub would only make them that much better. Better than my tb in half Chang for sure. Imaging is wonderful, voices great.  Thank you to all that worked on the frugal project.

Those are lovely jon. You now have 4 for a surround system? I've done a tiny FE126 box for use as centre.

Had a chance to compare the 2 versions of the driver?

Dave,

I have not had time to compare them.  The other pair of speakers went to a friend down the street. He had two pair of drivers, I built the cabinets so we have not had time to get them in the same room yet.  I also have had some issues with one of my amps and the pot, so working on that.   ?what happens if you made the frugal an 8 inch wide cab and then proportionally adapted it to fit and 8 inch driver..  ??? Any thoughts.

Thanks for all the help.

Cool stuff!  Where are you located?  Do you think it would be possible for me to hear these?  I'm in Chicago.  Not in the market but I'm really curious.

Thanks,

Jack
