I went with Blue Jean LC1 Techflex for my Phono IC. For a few bucks extra they added a ground wire. Had them in a few days.

Anyone ever try this?

http://www.zenn.com.sg/zero_connector.htm

I've read that web page before, makes perfect sense, never had the guts to try it.

Before you try get a pair of Depends. Radio Shack " Stero Audio Cables" . That is right. At $7.99 per pair a neutral cable. They will go through a nasty and I mean nasty break in period of 150 hours. I almost cut them up in little  pieces several times but stood it out and am really pleased with the results.

I have a similar low-cost success story... RocketFish RCA ICs. Best Buy had 8' pairs on sale for $10, so I bought a set just to hear how different (if any) they would be. I went back and bought enough to completely cover the rest of my system, got rid of what I had (barely upper end AudioQuest), and put a bunch of money in my pocket.

I use these cables (among others) and for the price, you will be very surprised. The used to have 5 footers for the same price but they sold out... The ultimate cheap price RCA interconnects..

Seems like an invitation to mechanical feedback and/or corrosion problems.  I suspect one of the reasons cable connectors were invented in the first place was the "twist the wire around the contact" approach (which is basically what this is) didn't work so well for the long haul...

The hardware store O-rings will quickly lose tension over time. Unless they are properly cryo'd.

Years ago the craz was CAT5 (single strand, plenum rated).  I had multi-strand to mess with and then went to single/plenum/cryo'd (noticeably better).  Super cheap (most guys just picked leftovers from I.T. wiring jobs).  Good sound, but due to the small gauge, lacked bass.  I still use them unterminated for speaker cables.

CAT-5 is 24 AWG - really not that small. Plus, there's no reason to think that a small guage can't transmit bass.

RAM Silver-Flex http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/audio-cables/stereo-cables/silver-flex-sa/prodFLEXSA.html for shorter lengths and IXOS Overture
XHA305 http://www.ixos.co.uk/en/ixos-products-detail.asp?PROID=272&Category=1&SubCat=24# for longer, is as "high end" a cable as far as the electrons or I will know.

cheers,

AJ

this guy's stuff is not expensive, and wery nice.  if you email him direct, you may get a better deal.  i got 3 pairs of 1m pure silver shipped for ~$150.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/dogsplodge/m.html

here's a 0.6m pair for $66 plus shipping (~$7 to usa):

compare to kimber cable kcag, which retails for ~$540/0.5m pair...

or go nuts, and get an 8-strand pair for <$100 shipped:

I haven't tried it all, that's for sure.  But I have gone through at least a dozen or so RCA interconnects that cost around $150 or less - particularly in the last couple of years. Of those I've tried, which would include offerings by: Nordost, Audience, Kimber, BlueJeans, Signal Cable, Morrow Audio, KnuKonceptz, MIT Cables, Ixos, Choseal, Chord, Zu Cable, Audioquest, PS Audio, Monster Cable, Audio Art and so on..    my go-to recommendation for a budget cable belongs to Virtue Audio's 'Nirvana' interconnect.

Why? Simply put, I like their build quality, their performance, and consistency. Particularly the latter. The thing is, while most of the aforementioned manufacturers make a great product, the problem is that their entry level efforts usually will either A) sound absolutely amazing in a system, or B) sound like absolute shit in a system. Thus I love to recommend the Nirvana's because well.. it's easy to do.  For the money, they don't do a whole lot wrong - and best of all, they match an extremely wide variety of gear.

Anyways, the good news is that most cable manufacturers offer a 30 (and sometimes even a 60 day) money-back guarantee. That makes the 'trying it out' process fairly easy and inexpensive.  So with all that said - good luck with your hunt!

To expand on Doug S. and Zero's posts I think this is the wave of the future, small run operations run by guys with a vision and low overhead selling on eBay, A-gon, here, whatever.  The days of the big house, multi-level product line guys are numbered.  The few brick and motor stores selling those lines retail aren't carrying any inventory anyway, it's all 30 day home trial from hifi catalogs, so why not save the extra cash for something as good or better.

I tried the Musilux but lacked the dexterity to make a good solder on those tiny wires. Love the feel of the stuff though and others swear by it.

I found these to perform well above their price point, especially if used with ss gear:
