I always wondered how tough are the output transistors SJ6521A/SJ6522A "custom-made" transistors by motorola for Bryston?. Does Motorola make them "tougher" for Bryston than the "usual" ones that we find like Toshiba ones?. I guess they must be tough to provide a 20 years warranty right?.

Bryston transistors are so tough they can slam revolving doors...

What will happen if you try driving a dead short?  Not a problem for Pass Labs Aleph 3! :green:

Not at all, but accidents can - and do happen.  And who needs the hassle of changing a fuse, assuming that is an option?

Hi Folks,

The amps have a short circuit protection circuit.

Do all Bryston models have the same short circuit protection? I do not remember where I read but, if an internal fuse goes...you have to send the unit for service!. is that true?

It would depend on the fault - if you blow one of the output devices then service would be required.

You don't need to go that expensive:

"Statement P2 and P5 amplifiers are stable into any impedance down to a short circuit at full output."

That is interesting info about Anthem amplifiers.

Hi James, do you know how many output transistor is in the 7B?  Just curious.

I brought one of those home last year for a week.  It certainly was a loud amplifier. It wasn't musical in any sense. Just loud.
