Woden Dunideer Build
« on: 27 Dec 2010, 03:44 pm »
I just finished these yesterday.  Sounding pretty good so far.  I will have a write up in the next HiFizine.  They use an EnAbled Mark Audio Alpair 6 3" driver.

Again, nice job!   :thumb:

Are you doing this for fun or looking for change?

Cool project, did you make the speakers, or mod them for use with the drivers?

How is the bass, and how is the soundstage?

Thanks again Jason. I enjoy building audio projects plus there are so many styles of speakers I have never heard.  Double mouth horns, check. I think I am more of a journey man vs a destination man.

I made these from scratch from 3/4" Baltic birch.  So far they sound real nice. The bass is good without my sub in use. The soundstage is nice and big as I expected from a speaker of this type.
Check out my article in the December HiFizine for a bit more on my motives.

I expect that those speakers sound very nice. I've heard a number (100+) of single driver variants at the Planet10 Vancouver Island DIY Fest over the years and always come away very impressed with the sound of these seemingly simple speakers. Your workmanship, seen in the pictures, seems to be quite good. Very nice indeed!

I do have a question, however. You mention that you have an article in the December HiFizine and I was wondering how to access it. I found your Solo 103 and the Pencil articles, but the Woden Dunideer speaker isn't shown. Is this issue of the "zine" not out yet?

Best Regards,
TerryO

Very nice indeed! Glad things are going well. :^)

At the risk of talking shop briefly, any chance of the Beta feedback before doing any writeups etc.? It would be very useful to have some.

Best wishes (& compliments of the season)
Scott

They do look very pretty. Love the treatment of the suprabaffle too.

Nice write up.  The journey is worth it, particularly when the design is as well conceived as Scott's seem to be.  I built a pair of his Coniston^2's last fall and I've not looked back.  The depth, detail and timbre of a well done full ranger are engaging and addictive.

Working with the Baltic birch is a pleasure.  It is very stable and true.  Were I to do it again I think I might sand the sheet before I ripped it because it is difficult to do in the corners after assembly.  I would also look over the sheet and plan my cuts to maximize the nicer grain patterns.   Natural Danish Oil Finish brought the grain out beautifully and is easy and non toxic.

Scott's designs are very much worth the effort.

Very well done. Curious, how do they compare to the Geddes in the background ?

Totally different animal.  The Dunideer has a huge soutstage but does not have the output.  Honestly there is not much that the Gedlee don't do better.  That said they are a very fun speaker and do sound great.  They were also a blast to build and I have had a good time comparing single driver designs.
