VR-33

Hi, I'm new here and am a proud owner for VR-3 since 1997 and now latest VR-33 in Jan 2010. I'm still keeping my VR-3 and have no intention to sell although the VR-33 is in superior (all areas) to the VR-3. I'm also proud to receive one of the 1st batch of VR-33 and also 1st in Malaysia to own. Thanks to Albert for all the help and great support.

My first impression of the VR-33 speaker is amazing. Right out of the carton, I can hear the soundstaging that is huge , deep & wide.  Never I have come accross speakers that has such amazing soundstaging. Bass was fast and tight. I just have about 100hrs on it and have already noticed what this speakers can do. It works well with the speakers placed against the front wall. No toe in. I'm driving them PassLab Aleph 0 monoblocks. I will share more when I get them run it.

Do check out the VR-33 if you have a chance. Highly recommended and for the price, it will beat any speakers in the range of $15k.

Cheers!

Welcome Tan -- and congrats on your new speakers. Can you clarify the poll question please? Do you want people to express their preference for one or the other? I am not sure many people have heard the 33 here. I have a pair of VR-3s for a home demo some years ago (damaged in shipping, so I could never hear them fully once the dealer got a bit stroppy over taking them back) so I'll not be voting:)

I will try to post some photos (once I figure out how to do it here). Sorry, pls ignore the poll questions. I was just trying out how to post here and got stuck with the poll questions. My apology.

Herewith is the specs for the VR-33. There was a press release back in Nov 2009. Not too sure it is in the VonSchweikert website.

Sensitivity 90db@one watt/one meter
Frequency Response – 20Hz to 30kHz, +/- 3dB.
Impedance – 4 ohms nominal, high-current amplifier recommended.
Weight – 103 lbs per side
Subwoofer – Peerless 10” with Low Distortion Motor, laminated composite
cone, elevated spider, long throw design, and copper clad pole piece.
Midrange – Two 6” treated paper cast-frame bass-mids with Low Distortion
Motor, elevated spider, copper clad pole piece.
Tweeter – 1” treated fabric dome, Dual Ring design with rear chamber for
low resonance and response down to the midrange band, Low Distortion Motor, and specialized voice coil/top plate design for long throw, high power use.
Woofer Alignment – Quasi-transmission line design using three chambers,
each tuned to a different resonant frequency to extend the bandwidth and reduce “one note bass” typical of ported boxes.  Woofer “fires” at rear wall to boost the bass at 20Hz by 3dB, can be “tuned” by user.
Power Rating – 25 watts minimum, up to 500 watts on peak music.

According to Albert, the Vortex VR-33 spank the VR-4 jr's which I own currently(I owned the VR-2's then upgrade to the VR-4jr's). These were designed with one goal. The finest drivers, high quality parts & Wiring in the crossover, over built cabinet 103lbs per speaker(No Lead shot in these). The money in not spent on the finish or dealers. And they are made here in the great USA!! These speakers should give speakers costing $15k a run for their money. I will be posting my findings once I have them in house. Albert was kind enough to break them in for me, so they will be ready right out of the box.

What is the retail on the VR-33? The specs seem to be even better than the Unifield 3, and was wondering if this would be in the same class.

Thanks,
Arun
