New OB
« on: 9 Mar 2009, 07:01 pm »
I have started my build of Dannys new un-named OB.
A few things changed to match my wood working abilities,
but I think they will turn out very nice.
The side panels will gloss up a bit when finished.
Thought you guys might enjoy these pics.

They really look awesome. I like the sides better this way without the curves. Interesting to know what wood and finish you used.

Great job!  I love the angles on the sides and the black texture.

It reminds me of my own DIY paint - Truck Bed Liner!

I suspect it is something far nicer, but the effect can be achieved with spray bombs, and some prep.

I like the juxtaposition of the black and wood, and the angles are cool too.

Thanks for the compliments!
I think it will turn out really nice.
The coating is not truck bed liner or panel gaurd.
I have built 9 speaks in the last 12 months including these. All of them have had a black satin
finish on at least the front baffle......it was time for  change.
I had noticed how some people have finished their boxes in bed liner so I bought some
to try it out. Neither the bed liner or panel gaurd were to my taste.
This is my own mixture.

The whole thing is MDF except the side panels. They are pre-veneered 3/4" ply.
I thought this would be fine in an open baffle. The veneer is oak, the stain is cherry.
Can hardly wait to power up......couple of weeks yet....will keep you guys posted.

Just curious... How are you planning on adjoining the side panels to the center section?

The top baffle and box sides will be screws and glue, the bottom part of the box to the panel
will have to be dowels and glue, clamped till dry. This should support the bottom of the
cabinet where the back 2 spikes are......I hope.

Well....I have the drivers installed in the cabinets, and the servo amps 100% ready to go.
This week I will work on the wiring.....should be "ON" by next weekend.
The rear tweet and x-over are next to install.
The cabinets came out really nice...but the flash had to be turned off, due to glare,
so the pictures are a little washed out.
This is not the room thase will be used in....sort of speaker storage right now.

I can hardly wait.............

good eye for the little details,  :thumb:

But seeing your other ( stored) speakers
You have a high reference for good sound already

I am really looking forward to your "discoveries"  :green:

This was mentioned in the original thread for these speakers...there's not much that can be done to avoid the comparison between the Orion and this speaker, the drivers need to go where they are...

Lookin good, I have to say!  Can't wait to read some impressions of their sound.
