NEW DODD 60 DIGITAL AMPLIFIER
« on: 2 Mar 2007, 09:41 pm »
Here it is, the first DODD DIGITAL amp. It has 30 watts of power per channel at 8 ohms. It uses 4 SLA batteries for a very long play time before charging. The chassis is the same size as the battery preamp.
It charges automatically when turned off. :thumb:
As for the sound, when this thing is used in it's power range it is amazingly gooooood!! Of course when you decide it's time to ROCK AND ROLL the power is there, but so is the distortion!! :( And we all know this can become painful to listen too. This is typical of this type of amplifier. Everything seems to be right on the money. I am going to sell these for $1295 plus shipping of course. The first run will be for 20 units.
I have included a few pics for you to see. (please disregard the cheap cableing it is my test rig on the bench). :thumb:

What I mean is that after the 30 watts of clean power (.05%) the power rises some amount, like 50 watts at 1% THD and at 80 watts it is around 10%. These amps do not clip like we are used to, or like SS amps. They tend to produce more power with more distortion and less effiency.

"It charges automatically when turned off."

I don't see any AC power connection in your picture.

The charger plugs into the back of the unit where it says "charge".

Thanks for the info on the charger.

Is the amp an ice module in a box with a battery psu, or is it an original design?

It's based on the Tripath chips

Gary, Is the amp based on the TK2050 chip? That chip looks like the biggest bang for the buck based on the available power vs.distortion.
Do you anticipate any problems getting more of the chips for future production
and warranty claims given that Tripath Technologies Inc. is in chapter 11?

I am using the 2022 chips. I am not worried that Tripath may fail. If you keep up with everything that is goin on with tripath, and have a look at the hundreds and hundreds of manufacturers that are using these products. I am not worried. If I only get to build 20 or so of each model that would be fine for me. I also plan to have some backup parts to be able to offer service on them for awhile at least if they do go away.
