Finally! LS-6 kits are shipping!
« on: 13 Feb 2007, 10:44 pm »
Guys, I am completely psyched!  Just got off the phone with Danny and placed an order for the LS-6s.  He needs to finish the wiring schematic for the crossovers, but they should be on their way soon.  I've been waiting for this design since Danny first announced them back in August of 2005.  With my JL Audio Fathom F113 being delivered tomorrow and these babies on the way, my system should be set for awhile.  I'll send some pics on my progress as time permits.   :D

Thanks,

Kelly

LS-6 kits are now available for shipping. I'll get the info up on our web site as soon as possible.

The kit is $1,995. for the pair. This includes all Alpha Core foil inductors, Sonicaps, etc, the best of everything. It also includes Vampire Wire binding post and Brass or Chrome floor spikes.

Hey Kelly did you want Brass or Chrome floor spikes?

You can view the cabinet plans here: http://www.gr-research.com/pdf/LS-6%20box.pdf

Danny,

Are the Onix Focus LS versions going to have the goodies like sonicaps, alpha core, vampire, etc?

They will have their own high quality binding posts. They will have high quality OFC air core inductors (not foil) and they will use good quality poly caps with some Sonicap by-pass caps. They are not the same parts as offered in the kits, but very good none the less.

If they use the same basic crossover as the LS-6 (and I think they will) then the kit price for the LS-9 will be $2750.

Both kits prices are determined only by the exactly retail price of all parts only as I am trying to offer these at as low of a price point as I can.

The crossover also includes a variable bass management system that makes them easier to dial into a given room or room size depending on room gain.

do you think the Onix sp3 could drive the LS-6's, or would the onix 120 be better?  I may still try the OB7/165 woofs on my own and tweak them.

The SP-3 will drive them but you'll want more power.

hi danny,

what drivers are used?  what is the x-over topology?  what is the efficiency & load?  same questions for the ls-9...

thanks...

Danny, did you make any changes from the prototype that was at Arts house?  Or will the kit be the same as those?

thanks

Frank

what drivers are used?

I had a custom Neo 8 built by BG Corp.

See info here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=21017.0

I also designed a new woofer just for this application. It is the new M-165LS.

You can read info about it here: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=21141.40

Proprietary of coarse.  :D  Drivers are acoustically in phase out to 40 degrees off axis in either direction with no phase cancellation. It features or bass management system to.

what is the efficiency & load?

I am going to conservatively rate them as 90db 1 watt/1 meter. Keep in mind that a line source only looses 3db per doubling of distance, unlike a point source that looses 6db per doubling of distance. So at 4 meters away the output is equivalent to a point that is rated at 96db sensitivity.

Here is the impedance response. with varying amounts of bass management.

The bass management system allows the user to vary the output in the 40Hz to 100Hz range to mirror image their room gain. The different curves shown represent the effect of different resistor levels used in the bass management system.

I will conservatively rate it at a -3db down point in the mid 20's, but in my room it was flat to 20Hz, and in Art's room the -3db down point was in the upper teens.

same questions for the ls-9...

It will be similar.

The kit is exactly as the prototype pair heard at Art's.

hi danny,

thanks for the answers.  wouldn't the ls-9 be a bit more efficient than the ls-6?  and, how would you compare these to the alpha ls?

thanks...

I haven't heard of there being one yet, but if there was one then it would be the same parts that come in the kit. There is nothing better.

Slightly.

Two steps above them.

Danny, what kind of woofers are in the LS6?  Are they the same as the M130s?   If they are not the same as the M130 could you please post a pic?

Thanks again

I believe it's M165 XBL^2 6.5"

The woofers are not the M-165X. They are the M-165LS that were built specfically for the line source application.
