Isolation for my LIO - footers/platform advice
« on: 3 Mar 2018, 08:58 pm »
Hi.

I hope this isn't an inappropriate posting in your circle Vinnie - if so let me know and I'll move it somewhere.  I have an LIO I use with my Salk Silk monitors.  The LIO sits on my desk and I notice the vibration when I tap on the desk, so I think I need some form of isolation.  Can I have some recommendations?  I'd be happy with footers or a platform I guess, just not sure which would be best.

Thanks
Will

Hi Will,

If you normally don't pick up microphonics with your LIO DHT PRE in your office system unless you *intentionally* tap on your desk, then it is probably not an issue (simply don't tap on your desk).

But if you are sitting at your desk working and it becomes an issue (e.g. typing on your keyboard, moving items around, etc.), then
you might want to look into isolation platforms such as those that are used for turntables.  For example, Gingko Audio.

Thanks for the advice Vinnie.  I'll try to stop strumming my fingers (smile).

I had some concern that the audible effect of things like closing a drawer or someone plopping a book on my desk might be causing some damage to the tubes, speakers, my LIO or a combination.  I'll keep my eye open for a platform like that or something similar.

Cheers
Will
