BDP and TIDAL
« on: 19 Jan 2015, 05:11 pm »
Lots of BDP owners are curious when they'll be able to utilize the TIDAL lossless streaming service with their BDP. We're working on implementing this, but don't yet have a timeline for release. However, there are workarounds.

In particular, those who control their BDPs with Android devices can use an app called BubbleUPnP. Basically, BubbleUPnP accesses your TIDAL account and lets you stream losslessly to your BDP using the UPnP/DLNA protocol. I've done limited testing with it and it seems to work very well. Steps are outlined below:
  • Make sure you're on the most up to date version of Manic Moose (Version 2.06 10-07-2014)
  • Make sure TIDAL and BubbleUPnP are both on your Android device
  • Clear your BDP playlist, and turn on DLNA renderer under settings
  • In BubbleUPnP, set the BDP as your renderer
  • In BubbleUPnP, set your library as Cloud, then TIDAL
  • Search for what you want to hear, and press play

Happy listening!

In step 3, you're clearing whatever playlist you've made in Manic Moose, not in BubbleUPnP. We'll have official Tidal integration for sure, but for those who are both hasty and have Android devices, this is a temporary workaround.

You could try the Shairplay client and try airplay from your iOS device

Are you guys considering offering other steaming services as well, or Tidal exclusively?

Thanks

We will consider anyone who gets back to us, so far thats just tidal and another company who's name escapes me, but that other company wanted a large pile of cash, a small amount of cash for each unit sold and expected us to sell 10,000 units a year minimum.  Tidal has been extremely helpful and has kinda persistent to push our development.  I still havn't taken a close look at how to playback the streams yet, but thats the last thing that needs to be figure out before i'm comfortable giving an eta.  The API otherwise to login to an account and to get information (not streams) appears to be quite simple.

Cheers,
Chris

Both the Tidal and BubbleUPnP app (most recent versions) are installed on my Galaxy Pro tablet. My BDP-1 is running the latest software release but I can't seem to find most of the settings you're mentioning on BubbleUPnP. Can you be more specific  on 'turn on DLNA renderer', I do not have such an option on the Bubble UPnP. DLNA is activated on the BDP, but other computers don't seem to find it. If I restart the BDP it (DLNA) is off again. btw I have the BDP-1.

I'm using Deezer Elite via Sonos.  It is lossless flac, but limited to 16 bit 44.1 with Sonos equipment.  If the BDP-1 could stream it to paid subscribers that would be great.  The user subscription works out to $10 USD per month if purchased annually.

Hi.

Because I'm in Switzerland I need a HiFi Partner voucher to join Tidal.   I get this message when accessing the Tidal web site:

Introducing the first music streaming service that combines the best High Fidelity sound quality, High Definition music videos and expertly Curated Editorial.

Currently access in your country is limited to HiFi Partner voucher holders only. If you have a voucher, please sign-up here

Does Bryston have Tidal vouchers for BDP owners?

Thanks

Ron

It sounds like you just need the voucher to create the account

I think that's correct.

At the moment you can only create an account if you're in the following countries:

•United States of America
 •United Kingdom
 •Canada
 •Ireland
 •Luxembourg
 •Netherlands
 •Finland
 •Belgium
 •Italy
 •Singapore
 •South Africa
 •Denmark
 •Czech Republic
 •Slovakia
 •Spain
 •Portugal
 •Estonia
 •Lithuania
 •Latvia
 •Norway

But HiFi partner can give out voucher numbers.  For example if you're a Linn user in Switzerland you can use Tidal: https://tidalsupport.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201922792-Linn

If it's not possible I'll just wait until Tidal comes to Switzerland.

Thanks

Ron

Hi Chris,

Tidal has launched in Switzerland today, so there's no need to email them.

thanks

To late, the deal was if your product is ready for official support, ours is not and still early in development.

I updated firmware on my bdp2 and tried the tidal per this thread.....
sounds quite good.....

but:

search window doesn't work worth crap......no matter what you put in as far as artist name
nothing comes up unless you put in a single word.....like webster.......then some artists
will appear "like ben webster" and you can get his discography in that way.....
but if you type in "ben webster"......no dice

Well it is still under development, however the next beta does make some significant improvements to the search feature including auto search

Hi Chris,
What is the status for TIDAL support? Is it still in beta or already official?
