Although dynamic compression exists on some CDs to participate in "loudness wars" (more prevalent on rock and pop CDs), even using the non-extended original commercial CD capacity which allows 74 minutes of non-compressed 16/44.1 data, unless the album exceeds that length, there would be no reason to use data compression on a CD to "fit the data on the disk".

Are you saying that data compression is used to fit more than 74 minutes of music on a standard disc?

No, I didn't word that quite right, I just meant there would be no reason for data compression.  CDs are all uncompressed linear PCM 16-bit/44.1 KHz on 74 minute / 650MB discs.

Sony supposedly also inlcuded an 80 minute / 700MB format beyond the original Red Book specification for commercial CDs, but I have never come across one and have personally only seen 80 minute discs in recordable CD-R or CD-RW format.
