12AU7/12AX7 karma (#1)
« on: 15 May 2013, 11:02 am »
Well, may as well get into the spirit of things :)

I have a box of old stock 12AU7 and 12AX7 tubes. I think they were pulls from organs. Not "NOS" but they look pretty good, I did match a couple of pairs a long time ago and the recipient was very pleased with at least one pair IIRC.

So, to get the ball rolling again I'm offering a pair of 12AU7 or 12AX7 which I will attempt to visually match for manufacturer and electrically  test and match (within reason) on my TV7 tester.

Rules are at least ten posts already, pick a number between 1 and 10 (going to make this first one quick, there are plenty more...), say whether you want 12AU7 or 12AX7, and you have to say what item of equipment you are going to put them in. (Sorry but it's not worth me doing the work for someone who just wants to pass them on...)

If it works out well and postage is not too onerous then I'll do more.

OK go  :thumb:

BTW if you need three tubes, or a mix of 12AU7 and 12AX7 that's fine too. Just say why/what equipment.

Number: 7

Tubes: 12AX7 (pair)

Gear: Rogue Stereo 90 (just back from getting upgraded to Super Magnum status).

Much appreciated JohnR. 12AX7s were at the top of my audio to-do list.  Crossing my fingers.

I am using Baldwin 12AU7's now in my phono stage. If the tubes you pulled are Baldwins then someone is in for a nice treat. So I will opt for a pair of 12AX7's.

Number 9

Number 3--pair 12AU7's for a Xiang Sheng preamp I picked up for a third bedroom system. Nicely built and nice sounding little linestage. Unknown Chinese tubes.

Thanks for the offer.

Cool, well this shouldn't take long!

Tube tester fired up. More AUs than AXs (AX at left)

Thanks Bob. I pulled a few out and looked, some are in fact labeled Baldwin, others Mullard, Sylvania, RCA, GE, Kenrad, ...

Hopefully everyone realizes this is a bit of fun and doesn't get hopes up too high. They could be great or they could be terrible. I won't even be able to listen to them myself, just run them through the tester.

Well, I'll take number 5.

I'd use this in my Decware ZP3 phono stage. It uses 2 12AX7 and 1 12AU7.

Good gesture JohnR.  :thumb:

I also have a Rogue Stereo 90 and a Rogue 99 pre, both of which use the 12AX7.

Wow!  3 of the 7 entrants so far have Rogue equipment!  Either there are lots of Rogue owners on this site (Circle perhaps?) or we are too poor to afford our own tubes!

What the heck, #10 for my Jolida phono stage, 12AX7.
If I win I'll reimburse you for postage as you're on the other side of the planet.
