APL / Alex Peychov - Request for Advice.
« on: 24 Sep 2005, 09:26 pm »
Serious question, and request for advice on how to proceed.

Has anyone had any recent contact with Alex Peychov through any medium?

He had a player of mine since July of 2004...14 months now.

In February of this year, there was the promise of it being returned a few weeks later.  Since June/July I've been trying to reach him weekly or biweekly seeking an ETA, or even something implying that he still exists, with zero response since February.

This has gotten tiring and repetitive, and I really need to find some sort of resolution.  For right now, I simply want to get in touch with him, and receive _some_ sort of response, explanation, and ETA...but based on the 14 month void, if continuing to be polite truly seems futile going forward.......

For right now, has anyone had any contact with him, know him, or had the same issue?  In addition, I'll take any advice.... Not meant to be a bitch session...

He used to post regularly on AA.  Haven't been there in a month so I'm not sure.  He seems to go in spurts.  You read a bunch of posts like this and then he pops up apologizing saying everything is going to be better.  If you ever get a hold of him I'd schedule a UPS pick up!

cjr888:
I saw Alex a couple of weeks ago and he is okay. If the player of yours that Alex has is a Phillips SACD 1000 you may have a long wait. Alex says that Phillips is no longer making the chips that go bad. The last batch he got from them took 4.5 months to get here. He has some but is saving them for customers like me who have one of his Modded Phillips SACD 1000. Nick B listed the site where you should be able to contact him.

All - thank you for your comments, and also the pointer to his forums -- didn't know they existed....  Hopefully I will get a response and resolution soon, though not holding my breath, but think we can close this thread....

Reading throught APL forms, today on Sept 24th, Alex should be in San Diego in a San Diego Audio Society "shootout" with Meitner CDSD/DCC2 and his newest AKM DAC'd Denon 3910.

Dang, I had no idea Alex moved on from Crystal DACs to AKM; apparently, this is a significant improvement.

lol...I wouldn't be too excited about anything he's trying to sell.

...and I'm a customer who has a working player...

His business practices are pure shit.

I hear you.  I was lucky to get my CDP modded by Alex before he got so busy.  Still, if I see an APL 3910 with AKM on the used market, I don't believe I could resist..

cjr888, Please post on what happens. I have friends who swear by his upgrades, but if his apparent lack of concern for a customer as patient as you is very troubling. I think AudioCircle is a great place for giving credit when credit is due, but it also serves to put out caution flags for dealers/mfgr's who we need to be wary of.

If he doesn't resolve your problem satisfactorily, maybe you should post your experiences with him on his forum - see how long it lasts...

I own the APL SACD 1000 with all the mods except the new AKM dac board. It is a very fine player and I'm happy with what I hear. However because of the chips no longer being available I will not spend anymore money on upgrades. I'm not sure what I'll do if it craps out. It's never had a problem up to now but there is always the chance of the chips giving up. Then I'll have an expensive anchor to use as a door stop or something. By the time I bought the player and had Alex do his magic I have a $3050.00 CD player. I wonder if I spent that money somewhere else would I get the performence I'm getting now. Only time will tell.

I have had (mostly) good experience with Alex. I bought the modified Pioneer 563A from him last year, and got it in good time. I contacted him again earlier this year to to implement some additional improvements on the player that people on his forum were ga-ga over.

I sent the player and then did not hear from him for about 6 weeks, even though I kept pestering him with inquiring emails. Then all of a sudden I received an email from FedEx saying that the player was being shipped back to me. It sounds much better than when it went to him -- however, now I cannot contact him about paying for it.

My feeling is that he takes up too much work and gets behind on it. Right now, for example, he is probably busy with RMAF in Denver, and I doubt if he will be easily available.

P.S. I have also found Alex very honest -- for example, he discouraged me from getting his DAC on my player -- it was not worth it for the money, in his opinion.

Since email, smoke signals, telepathy, and phone have not worked, I have taken the suggestion of posting to his forums:

May pass out if I receive a response.
