long live the record stores.....
« on: 13 May 2017, 08:09 pm »
Sunrise Records  is opening soon here in Vancouver.....I grew up with  this and would miss the idea of a  shop that I can visit and purchase material physically. HMV packed it in  but behold here is my second chance to have something that I grew up having. They will go into more vinyl than the previous  shop and hopefully this will make things a bit more viable as a business.....( I hope). :thumb:

^ Fingers crossed!

Brick and mortar record stores are becoming harder to find.

Bricks and mortar music stores of any sort are becoming harder to find. Last summer, when I was looking for a specific CD for my wife for her birthday, I went to several stores that used to sell CDs, but to no avail. When I asked about CDs in one store (Best Buy or Indigo) and mentioned CDs, the saleswoman pointed me to towards the computer department and the blank CDs. Everything is online these days, either streaming or from online retailers such as Amazon.

I listen to a lot of classical. Gave up on CD stores a long time ago. For me, Amazon resellers are the best source for my CDs. Never been disappointed. Occasionally may do downloads from Presto Classical in the UK.

Yes, same here. Have a look at https://www.jpc.de which has become my main provider.... Most of the time much cheaper than local (online) resellers, counting in shipping costs. Not sure if they ship overseas. Their catalogue of classical music is beyond anything Amazon offers.

Cheers,
Marius

I'm just going to say AMEN to the record stores. I'm fortunate to have a store here in Cinci that's been selling vinyl since the 70's and still going strong. :thumb:

Visited Satellite Records in Kalamazoo, MI this week.   Clean, very well organized, great selection and service, and they weren't blasting music so loud you couldn't think.

Best folk music section I've ever seen, most discs were in great shape and prices were very reasonable.

Highly recommended!   :thumb:

+1 to the title of the thread, long live record stores.  I'm lucky to have several record stores in South Jersey near me, Tunes, a local chain that just closed some of their stores so don't know how long they'll keep going, Jupiter Records, a very nicely stocked used with some new shop just down the road from me, and several others a bit farther away.  If I include the greater Philadelphia area, there are over a dozen good to great shops, including the huge Princeton Record Exchange.  It's a slight embarrassment of riches for those of us in this area when I hear of people with no record stores near them.

The Record Guys in Abilene has been around quite a while, even though the owner is in his 20's.  Seriously, the guy started buying vinyl at garage sales and selling at flea markets when he was around 12, and opened a B&M before leaving high school.

If in Paris, visit La Dame Blanche, 47 Rue de la Montagne Sainte Geneviève, 75005 Paris.

A very cozy little record shop with lots of vintage and current classical LPs/CDs, and some jazz as well.

The Record Exchange in Boise, ID. Always a fun stop when I'm downtown.

Lucky you! I've looked at Bayreuther but truth be told, I cannot sit through Wagner. Way too long. Even the recordings. Music isn't bad, but it's all a marathon for me.
