New Multi-Channel 24/192 DAC from Mini-DSP
« on: 17 Mar 2015, 06:47 pm »
For $299 this looks like a nice entry-level 24/192 eight channel USB DAC.  No native DSD, but at this price point DSD to PCM conversion is a reasonable compromise. http://www.minidsp.com/products/usb-audio-interface/u-dac8

Mini-DSP put together a setup guide for Jriver and Audirvana+. http://www.minidsp.com/applications/60-audio-streaming

Very nice attention to detail in the setups...and for $299 a no-brainer for the entry level computer audio multichannel fan.  Nice find Russ!    :thumb:

Interesting product that creates a cheaper alternative to the Exasound E28, something that's on my long-term radar. It looks like this MiniDSP product doesn't come with Dirac software, yet...

Too bad they don't bump the 2x10HD from 24-96 to 24-192....

Can you actually hear the difference between 24-96 and 24-192?

This is a USB DAC only with no DSP capability.

I'm keeping an eye on the evolving DIRAC products.  The upcoming nanoAVR DLA, a HDMI DIRAC processor, could be a killer upgrade for a home theater rig.  Here's the nanoAVR HDA.  Same box without DIRAC.

I see that but wonder whether a revised version with DSP might follow in the near future.

That would be cool.

Can we just jump ahead to the future and get a box with analog, spdif, USB, ethernet or wireless inputs.  All formats + analog  upsampled to 1.5mhz (or whatever).  Ample DSP & plug-in capability for multiple channels.  Digital or analog output with an option of a power module to drive speakers directly, etc, etc.

We're not there yet but we'll get there, probably (hopefully) sooner than we think.
