Hello Audio Experts!
I finally decided to get a pro to make a crossover for my "Big Uglies", my 3-way homegrown speakers.  I don't have a mike setup, & the computer sims are only second best.
Tweets are SS D2905/9900
Mids Seas Excel M15CH-002 Nextel
Woof Seas Prestige L26RFX/P
So off to the Brklyn Navy Yard to get a proper xover made!

The interesting part is that the proprietor asked me what amp I had:
Me: "I have an Audio by Van Alstine Fet Valve hybrid amp 400R...."  :D
Roman: " 400r is an excellent amp and the impedance of your speaker doesn't drop below 5.8ohm.
I have FetValve 550 btw."  :thumb:

Thanks Frank!
Murf

murf,

though Frank allows your dog photos. I suggest that you go to the photo section and start a "Our Dogs" thread.

Here is Berkeley, my big tabby, who works with me and knows how to play fetch and roll over.

He is ferocious and friendly and a real joy have as a friend.

Maybe...not!  (can't please everybody)

Those kitties are cute.

Um, OK.

So should I expect lots of pet pictures in AVA threads instead of any info about the equipment?

Perhaps you can change the lead subject title so that people are not mislead, eh Frank?

Um, this is the innernet.
I made my point, which is that another very good speaker maker uses an AVA amp (besides Mr. Salk).
If you need an answer, I'm sure many here will try to help; you just need to make a thread of your own, & not try to control the threads of others.
Pls excuse me, but I just want to have fun (life can be difficult).

I have heard that AVA are high quality and good sounding amplifiers.

Thanks MartyO,
The speakers sound great.  I'm so happy I finally took them to a pro for a miked xover.  I'm now swapping resistor values in the tweet & mid circuits to tune them for my room, & am just about there.  When I figure that out, I can buy some fancy resistors!
The speaker maker I went to loves his AVA amp, with one caveat.  And I can sort of agree with his criticism since I was bi-wiring my speakers previously.  He switches speakers often, so, "The binding posts are too small & buried under the heat fins...!"
I thought that pretty funny being his big complaint.  He said he spoke to Frank about it.  But we are both keeping our AVA amps!

Enjoy,  Murf

I'm considering a Transcendence 10 and Synergy 240 for my Spatial Holograms...tired of the merry-go-round, and so is Z.
