Budget passive OB design with buyout woofers
« on: 28 Jun 2016, 03:33 am »
For those looking for an inexpensive OB build I finished one using Parts Express buyout woofers.  You may want to choose other colors or grills over the woofers.  This is in their Forum Speaker Project Gallery with a PDF of the build plans  http://techtalk.parts-express.com/forum/speaker-project-gallery/1287586-titan-budget-ob

It’s also posted in the PE Project Gallery http://projectgallery.parts-express.com/speaker-projects/titan-ob/

Very sweet design. I could see these in a moderate sized dorm room or co-op for a beginner audiophile on a shoestring budget. Anything to get the young folks in  :P

Great job!

Anand.

Most funky!

I like the layout and the frugality appeals too.  Nice work.

Simple and inexpensive way to get into the wonderful world of OB speakers.
Almost certain after this first one, their will be others more sofisticated OB projects.

Thanks for the nice comments.  The woofers have high QTS, low FS and with the proximity to the floor do a decent job of reproducing bass.  The Tang Band mid tweeters are nice with reasonable dispersion.  Those who build them will be impressed with the sound quality per $.

These will be at the Midwest Audio Fest July 9th for the design competition.  After that they are in St. Louis for any one who wants a demo.

Nice work John!  I saw those woofs and was wondering about them...looks like they turned out just fine.

Despite getting a bunch of ribbing about the color at the Midwest Audio Fest, these took 3rd place in the under $200 category.  Not bad going up against some quality box speaker competition.  :D

Nice work!

I bought 4 of those dirt cheap buyouts in black and 8 ohms. After testing them I put them back in the box for a future project. Heck

they sounded pretty good just sitting face up on my work bench.

As I recall the Qts is pretty high @ 1.0+ and P.E. recommends them for OB.

They would be great for cheap stacked/ slot OB sub.  My sim has these with the floor response at an F3 of 28 Hz.

Odd I have two different computer locations but one log in, each computer location shows different pictures.

The images in your post are fine, but the image address that you subsequently posted is using the IP address of the server, not the site name (www.audiocircle.com). This won't work, as the site name is required to properly resolve which site to deliver images from (even though there is only one).

I can't explain why this would have happened, perhaps you are behind some sort of weird proxy or caching thing (aol?). But clearing your browser's cache is usually the first step when something like this happens.
