You made a post in the thread.  :wink:

Haha ... yes I knew it was coming, but the description of it being as fast as the RS5 makes this sound pretty unique!

I spoke with Louis over the phone after originally reading the OP. The announcement/release of the new 8" is serendipitous as I have been researching Omega for the past month. After experiencing the 3XRS, I was blown away by what a full-range driver can do, much less one that is 4.5"!!! Anyway, I wanted something with more boom and slam but with the speed and detail of the RS5. I was vacillating between doing the RS5 w/ a Speed 12 or going with the 7XRS. Then I saw the 8" here and called Louis. Without prompting, he explained this 8" has the speed and detail of the RS5 (mush more so than the RS7) while offering the "slam" of a larger driver. Then add the 98dB sensitivity and this model hits my top-3 requirements in a new speaker!

I will probably order this speaker today ;-)

Thanks for the additional info ... looks to be another winner from Louis, make sure to come back and post some feedback after you get some hours on them.

The new 8" driver is ferrite + paper.
I believe it is a hemp+paper blend, correct?

I believe Louis said it is a 32L cabinet 24" tall. Not quite sure on the other dimensions but basically the cabinet in the picture on the thread announcing its production (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=130573.0). He did say the AlNiCo 6.5" will remain as his "high end" driver.

No Hemp.  It's a paper and cotton all natural fibre blend.

Not at all. Just wanted to give hemp its due. Hemp used to be an important crop/fiber throughout history and in the early Americas before it was outlawed:

    Having both the RS5 Speaker Multi Point/ Bipole;

and the Alnico 6 Monitor;

    If the desert Island choice had to be made between the two of them.

    Alone I would choose the Alnico 6 Monitor;

it never sounds less than Musical

                                                     But

    Throw in the 12" Woofers; then it is the RS5 (4 1/2") Driver

    The combination of the two of them is Magical.

What about air dropping some subs to the island with the Alnico?

With the right source and amp, the Super Alnico Monitors don't need a sub.  I concur with ZLS - they are so musical, and may I add; they give me goosebumps.

    If I had the financial ability;

    I would ask Louis to build an Outlaw Alnico Speaker that would be a Floor Standing Speaker with one Alnico

Driver facing forward and one Alnico Driver facing up for an Omni Alnico Speaker that would be

Shut The Front Door Good.

    Ah, one can always dream...

Old thread, but here's a query and see if I can get a response...:)

While the 8" is about as quick as the 4.5", but with more slam, what does it give up on the 4.5 in terms of trebles?  Or does it not give up much on higher frequency at all?

I assume that it does give up some on:
a. Dispersion
b. Pinpoint imaging.
c. Soundstage depth
d. Disappearing act.

But gains considerably in presence/slam.

Anyone can confirm?

Thanks!

Hi Ultralight,

Thanks and A through D the RS5 excels due to their size, cone weight of slightly under 2 grams as well as being whizzerless.

The larger more sensitive RS8 will better it easily with slam weight and dynamics though, but nips at the heels of A through D of the RS5's.

As I told rob303 it's an RS5 on steroids.

Thanks again,
Louis
