Is there any place I can buy mini ESL diy kit?
« on: 21 Jan 2015, 02:21 am »
Hi,

I'm interested in making ESL speaker, especially mini ESL speaker.
I found that some sites such as ERaudio sells ESL speaker diy kits, but there is no mini speaker I want.
I'd like to make mini ESL speak like magnepan mini maggie.

Is there any site that I can buy diy kits for the mini ESL spearker?

Thanks.

Hi, I don't know if you saw this one on the ER Audio site:

http://www.eraudio.com.au/Mini_Panels/mini_panels.html

That is not a kit but it seems to be about the form factor you are looking for. At one point I think he may have mentioned something about a kit so you could always ask about a kit version.

No personal experience with that one. Apparently the horizontal dispersion is improved over the earlier 440 panel.

Why not go with the Mini Maggie? It's unbelievably good and I doubt you'll be able to equal it on your own -- those new panels that JohnR found look nice, but what would you do for the bass? A DWM woofer (as used in the Mini Maggies) is one possibility, but I think you'd still hear the transition from woofer to stat.

Not mini per se, but this is the smallest ESL I'm aware of.  JansZen zA1.1.

I've seen mini panels of ER Audio. But they are not small enough.

Actually, I am interested in making it in person.

Except as relates to tweeters, the words "ESL" and "small" don't belong together.  ESL's need big surface aea to offset their limited diphragm excursion and dipole roll off.   Magnetic planars likewise suffer from the dipole roll off but can somewhat compensate with their higher sensitivity and excursion.
