What amp for your Salk Speakers?
« on: 17 Apr 2012, 11:25 pm »
I am very interested to find out what amplifiers everyone is using to power their Salks!

What speakers do you have?

What amp/pre-amp for stereo?  What about surround?

Cheers!

It looks like a lot of Salk owners are very happy with AVA electronics. In my case, BAT VK-31 and BAT-VK6200 is running the show. My source is Oppo 83 se NE.

What is your budget?

Salk SoundScape 10's driven by McIntosh MC501 amps and a McIntosh C48 preamp.

Salk SoundTowers paired with a Parasound A23 amp and Parasound C2 controller.

ST's with LCY RT......driven by an AVA 240 amp and AVA T8 pre.  Would like to try a tube amp someday just to see how I like it compared to the AVA.

I'm driving Salk HT-3s with an AVA T-8+ preamp and 550 Ultra Double.  The 550 has the stock tubes, and I replaced the stock tubes in the T-8 with RCA cleartops.

I suppose the only changes I might make in the future would be to upgrade to the new AVA Ultra Valve preamp and/or the 600R, but that's probably a long way off.

I'm a very happy camper.

My songtowers have been powered by Primaluna Prologue int amp, NAD 272 and Bryston 4B SST2 in that order. They have sounded good on each. I personally feel that any decently powered amp will run them well. No need to go crazy with watts or dollars!

I am very curious to hear what that combination sounds like? Especially if were able to compare to a previous setup?

Ht2-TL with MC-401 and CJ ETSE and Modwright KWA-100 and LS-100.  For the money especially in the preowned market the modwright is a great combo.(bargain)

When I had HT3's, the best sounding amp on them was the BAT VK-600SE.

Other good amps on the HT3's include:  McCormack DNA-500, Dodd 120's, CI Audio D200's, and Moscode 401HR

In regards to the Song Towers, I have used them only in a HT setup.  While they sounded good even with a Denon receiver, they have sounded their best with a Parasound A51 amp.  Not quite as good as the Parasound but better than the receiver was the ATI 1605.

SongTower LCY driven by a Parasound A23.  After the GTG we just had, though, the next purchase I make is a beefier amp; something with 250 watts into 8ohms or more.  The Halo A21 or something from AVA are now on my short list.  I NEVER want to have amplifier distortion when driving any speaker that I'll ever own.

My HT2-TLs are driven by the AVA Insight+ 440 with the double die option and like everyone else here, they sound fantastic. Seems like Salk's work well with any well designed amp although it looks like more power is better especially when looking at the models above the SongTower.
