single width SACD player?
« on: 17 Mar 2015, 04:34 pm »
Does any company out there make a single-width SACD player?   Or maybe it's called  "half width" like some of the Bel Canto components.    This would be for a bedside headphone rig with limited space.

I know Linn's older discontinued units were that size.

Denon used to offer a smaller width unit. maybe about a foot wide?

Denon DCD-CX3 CD / SACD Super Audio CD Player

Can't say if it was any good or not but if you found once in decent shape and the footprint matched up it might work for you????

It's too bad the Teac will just play DSD files on a burnt DVD as it would be perfect otherwise - http://audio.teac.com/product/pd-501hr/

Didn't Naim make a small CD player with a separate power supply?

Believe they did but the OP indicated SACD player and I'm not sure that the Naim did SACDs.  I know the Linn Unidisk players did

And now for a highly unorthodox option...how about buying an in-car sacd player such as the Sony MEX-DV2200 and powering it via a DC transformer and connecting speakers to it. It doesn't seem to have a headphone Output, but does m/c decoding! I think it's out of production, so you'd probably have to buy a used one. There might even be another in-car sacd player that does have a headphone output, I don't know,  the Sony was the first option that came up on Google.
