Phonon and Grain Audio headphones?
« on: 26 Aug 2013, 05:55 pm »
There was NY Times article about high end audio. They mentioned a new company called Grain Audio and also Phonon which are supposed to be the "holy grail of headphones."

Never heard of either of them. Have you?

Heard about grain audio, they started a project on kickstarter.

However, seems like nobody have had the chance to get their hands on one pair.

Ah, they are really, really new. They were funded in mid-May.

Great design on the over ear headphone.  But the ear pads look uncomfortable.  Can't wait to hear them in this very crowded field of audio.

The Grain audio sure remind me of all those OEM woodies being made for name companies by the company eSmooth. The website seems to say they got the funding to produce their own unique design. I'd hate to buy one and find that they use generic drivers and/or enclosures from OEM vendors.

The Phonon review, supposedly from head-fi, looks nothing like a real head-fi review by an experienced member. Looks suspicious to me. And the review acknowledged that his first impression was of a cheap headphone.

Well, two people on the second page said they were really good.

A quick look at amazon shows 3800 over the ear hp's. I'd imagine you'll find some that look like other companies'.
