Last night saw the Peter Karp Band in Woodstock, GA, at the terrific new music venue, Madlife Stage and Studios.

Very good blues/rock/country-ish by Peter and his two mates. Loved the sound Peter coaxed out of his highly modified National Steel guitar. After the show I spoke with him about it and he said National Steel folks are not too happy with his extensive modifications to it, although he prefers its sound - slightly more mellow toned than others I've heard.

If you live in the Atlanta area, Madlife is well worth checking out. Terrific, small, intimate venue with decent food, bar, and beer selections as well. And it has a very cool recording studio attached as well. What a great place!

Rickie Lee Jones at Kent (OH) Stage last night.  Great unstated performance, with RLJ's voice back to what it was!  Yes!  If you'd seen her a few years ago (and her albums at the time) she used a much less dynamic, lower octave voice, but all her wails, falsetto and soft nuance are back in full!!  :)

The concert was very minimalistic with Rickie (acoustic guitar, piano) and her incredibly busy percussionist/vibist Mike Dillon.  Wife and I had 3rd row aisle so it was wonderful and personal.

She did the standard RLJ stuff, of course, but often in her own "covers" sort of way, with a lot of interpretation that was quite something.  But she also brought out some real unforgotten gems of her catalog like Falling Up, Horses, Blinded By The Hunt, etc.  She sang for 2 hours to an only half-packed house of about 300 of us, but it didn't matter; we were fanatics anyway.  :)

Go see here if you are in VA, MA, NJ, or NY this month.

Yonder Mountain String Band at the Golden State Theater in downtown Monterey (Thursday 3/30/17).  They were incredible and played until the theater shut down.  Lil' Smokies that opened also tore it up.
