Black Lightning Question
« on: 11 May 2013, 02:23 pm »
Hi Vinnie,

I have a CAPS server and am entertaining a 2 rail Black Lightning to power the mobo and SOTM USB card.  Appreciate if you can tell me what lead times you are running?   And also, I'm living overseas but from the US,  do you think I would have any problem carrying one of these on a plane?  Not sure if batteries are an issue to carry in the planes cargo.

Thanks!

Hi ejn1,

Welcome to Audiocircle and the RWA forum!

We have been making many Black Lighting units for the CAPS servers.  What CAPS unit are you powering (Zuma, Lagoon, Carbon)?

Yes, we make them with the 12V and 9V outputs, and provide the cables.  For Zuma, you'll want a 2-pack solution as it draws more
current.  The Lagoon and Carbon can be either a 1 pack or 2 pack solution (they get approx. 7 to 8 hours on one pack).

Lead-time is approx. 4 weeks from when we receive your order.

As for carrying on a plane, I am not sure.  I would first contact the airline and mention it is a LiFePO4 battery computer power supply (definitely a safer battery chemistry than standard Li-ion and Li-Poly types).  Size of the unit is approx. 10" x 6.5" x 3.5" - in a black box.  So it will raise suspicion, but should pass inspection if they allow it on the plane in the first place.   Sorry I cannot be 100% clear on this - I rather you check with your airline to be safe instead of sorry.

Thanks Vinnie, I will check with the Airlines...   My Caps is similar to a Lagoon but I may change the board in the future to a slightly higher power draw so probably would opt for two pack.   Is the battery charger multi-voltage?
Thanks!

Hi ejn1,

Yes, the charger is universal voltage (100 - 240Vac).

Best regards,

Hi Ragman,

Welcome to AC and the RWA forum!

What is the input voltage rage for that MB?  Or does it need a strict 12V like the Zuma?

I don't see why it wouldn't work with the BL...

Best regards,

Vinnie

Thanks for your Welcome

I think its like the Lagoon Server with a 12V-19V

Wide Range Voltage Input
Offering additional flexibility for system DC voltage input, GIGABYTE Thin Mini-ITX motherboards offer a broad voltage range of 12v to 19v, eliminating compatibility issues with many traditional IPC designs.

How can I Order it ?
Because i called the Distributor (FRICCO Referenz Audio) from Austria and he say that he would not sell the Black Lightning High-Current Battery Power Supply

I hope my English is not to bad

Best Regards
