VPC-1 Noise
« on: 3 Nov 2005, 10:13 pm »
I have a VPC-1 with a noisy volume control.  What's the recommended fix?

What size are the torx screws on this guy, since I'll probably need to get a driver?

Usually if there is noise, it's caused by DC on the inputs(from the source).
You can disconnect the source and short the inputs to see if the noise is actually the potentimeter. If so, you can try a lubricating contact cleaner...if that doesn't do it, the pot will need to be replaced.

The VPC-1 came with a wrench to disassemble it (5/64 Allen...not Torx).

The volume pot on the VPC-1 has gotten progressively worse and now the right channel is completely out except at a couple of very small spots in the volume range and when I torque the knob clockwise at its limit. Cleaning with a contact cleaner has no effect on it.

Is there a replacement part that I could pick up and solder in?

(Also, how is the volume knob removed? It doesn't appear to be the same 5/64" Allen socket.)

You can send it to us for repairs.
The potentiometer is a custom type and difficult to change without the proper desoldering equipment. The correct hex wrench to remove the volume knob is 1.5mm.
