Hi yardbird64,

Thank you for emailing it  - looks fantastic to me!

Here are some quotes from the review, by Steven Stone of The Absolute Sound:

Regarding LIO's Ultracapacitor Power Supply:

Quote
“…LIO proved to be completely insensitive to AC power vagaries.”

“…LIO has pushed power supply design to the outer limits.”

Regarding LIO's modular design approach:

Quote
“LIO solves a lot of problems elegantly with one simple box.”

“LIO is a clever way to save space while retaining superb sound quality and upgradability.”

Regarding LIO's sound quality (using AVC, no tubestage):

Quote

“I was impressed by the LIO’s overall level of finesse and transparency.”

“Sonically I found the LIO to be a highly transparent and extremely low-noise component that allowed the music to pass through it unscathed.

“The LIO consistentlydelivered music in a way that focused on the music.”

A big THANK YOU to Steven / TAS for this excellent review - our very first in TAS!   8)   :notworthy:

I want to take this opportunity to thank Steven Stone for all his time and effort in reviewing LIO – our first review in TAS!  We have many ideas in the works and appreciate Mr. Stone and TAS for capturing LIO at the early stage of a bright future ahead.

Also - I sent Steven a LIO Phonostage because he mentioned that he wants to review it and other phonotages in a future issue!

Cheers!

Vinnie

Great - congrats. No one has reviewed the DAC yet, have they? I can't tell if this review included the DAC.

Hi firedog,

Thank you - yes, the review was using the LIO DSD/PCM dac exclusively (except for one instance when he compared it to an iFi micro iDSD dac)

Hi Vinnie,
Lio sounds like a great product. How does the sound compare to your recent efforts like the RWA Signature 57 integrated?
Thanks,
Anshul

Hi Anshul and bummrush,

Welcome to the VR forum!

LIO is in a different league, as I believe the 6moons review mentions and I've received
plenty of feedback confirming this from customers who moved from RWA to LIO.

All LIO modules (dac, phono, tubestage, etc) are quite substantial improvements over
RWA dac, phono, tubestage, etc.  And of course the patent-pending Ultracapacitor technology
is much better than what we've done with battery... even LiFePO4.

Sonically speaking, the improvements are all across the board - larger (width, depth, height), more open sound stage,
better micro detail retrieval, more dynamic, more resolving, tighter bass, better transient response, even blacker background,
... but still maintaining a natural presentation that is free of any form of listening fatigue.  Still a fine balance of tube and sold-state signatures.

Are you pending a patent, or is Maxwell?

Congrats on more good reviews. The modular nature really is up to today's persona.

Hi Folsom,

Thank you!

John Chapman (Bent Audio) and I have a pending patent on our isolated ultracapacitor power supply used in LIO (and
other products down the line...).

Cool, must be nice to have something unique enough to actually get a patent!

I'm very excited to report that LIO just received an Editors' Choice 2016 Award from The Absolute Sound (will be
printed in the March 2016 issue)!   :hyper:

I want to thank Steven Stone of TAS again for reviewing LIO in the Sept. 2015 issue, and for awarding it!
