T-Amp TK2050
« on: 31 Jul 2014, 03:11 am »
Hi,

I have started to look into trying out one one the TK2050 boards from hifimediy. I have one of the cheap Lepai 2020 amps, and liked the sound (much better than some of the Topping amps I also tried from PartsExpress), but it doesn't have enough amplification and it feels like something is missing. So does anyone have any experience with these boards? Some of the class d amp I have heard sound too "clinical" if that makes sense with not much of bass. Does anyone any impression of how an amp like the TK2050 would do with smaller towers or monitors (such as the Sierra-1 or one of the cheaper Selah designs). The T1 version is rated at 2x100W at 8 ohm, but not sure if there will be any distortion at t

I have a TK2050 and Meanwell power supply pictured here with a 6n3 tube preamp.

I was happy with it until I discovered the TPA3116 which sounds better and is more powerful. The TPA3116 drives speakers 87dbs and above quite well.

Many thanks for the info! Will definitely check these out. I did find your thread  TPA 3116 vs the tripaths, which has a lot of good stuff. So which 3116 board (color?) and seller do you recommend? I'd like to get a board with best quality components since I'd prefer to not have to mod. Also, can you clarify what your tube pre-amp does to the sound. Does it still sound OK without it?

I'd recommend this green board from Audiobah.

The 6n3 tube preamp adds some very nice warmth and smoothness to the sound.
